**The role**:
We seek an experienced professional researcher to lead the investigation of encoding of risky decisions in the intact brain. The plan of work comprises measurement of neuronal population activity _in vivo_ during learning. As such, the post holder will be a specialist in advanced neurophysiological techniques (either calcium imaging or electrophysiological recording in behaving animals) and will conduct experiments using these technologies within the School of Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience. The purpose of the job is to conduct world-leading research, to publish in top quality journals and disseminate results to the international community at large. The post holder will also work with researchers at the University of Bristol and elsewhere to maximise the impact of this research.

**What will you be doing?**:

- To design a range of experiments in relation to the project.
- To set up and run experiments in consultation with the principal investigator, ensuring that experiments are appropriately supervised and supported.
- To record, analyse and write up the results of all experiments, maintaining a lab book that will serve as a permanent record of the methodologies and the experiments.
- To prepare and present findings of research activity to colleagues.
- To contribute to the writing, submission, and revision of manuscripts to be submitted to appropriate peer reviewed journals.
- To contribute to the overall activities of the research team and department as appropriate.
- As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and amended in consultation with the post holder.

**Administration Responsibilities**
- When appropriate, undertake the training and supervision of students, technical staff, visiting scientists, and other members of the lab, in their areas of expertise.
- To manage transgenic mouse colonies where appropriate.

**Teaching Responsibilities**

As this role is a Pathway 2 (Research) role, there are no formally specified teaching duties required of the role-holder. However, other commitments permitting, the role-holder may be given development opportunities to undertake appropriate teaching activities.
- Experience of fluorescence imaging _OR_ extracellular electrophysiological recordings in conscious rodent brains.
- Experience using viral transduction in rodents.
- Experience using relevant data processing tools (e.g. Matlab, Python).
- A PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
