Patient Champions- Emergency Department

There is a great opportunity for some exceptional individuals to join and support the Emergency department team as Patient champions. This is an innovative role that is being established to support patients during a vulnerable time. The role is to be a friendly and support face/interaction with patients, ensuring they are comfortable, have their needs met and any questions answered (where possible). The role is aimed at providing pastoral care to patients whilst having interventions from the emergency department nurses and doctors. We want this person to be compassionate, understanding and want to make a real impact and difference to patients who are often frightened, have a high amount of uncertainty and anxiety, whilst being in a busy and challenging clinical area. Full training for the role will be provided.

We are a very busy department, covering a very diverse population, and we are also a major trauma unit.
We are looking for self-motivated Sups help take the department forward - you must be committed, flexible and approachable.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are expected.
You must be able to work a variety of shifts including days nights and weekends.
We value experience and skills learnt elsewhere and will work with you to enable those skills, to be utilised and developed further.
You will be supported by a team of Matrons, Senior Sisters, and Practice educators. There will be the opportunity for further study.
Our Emergency Department at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital provides care for both adults and children who attend with serious illness or injury. Due to our large catchment area, we currently provide for approximately 154,000 attendees per year.The department has an 8 bedded resuscitation and 43 major cubicles.
The department is classified as a trauma unit and we have a purpose built helipad onsite that will bring our most serious patients to the department via North West Air Ambulance.
We have a new, state of the art staff facility for staff changing with access to a shower as well as a new staff room, education room and wellbeing retreat for all staff.
We also have 2 Urgent Care Centres that are part of the emergency department and 2 Minor Injuries Units which are located at Accrington Victoria Hospital and Rossendale Health Centre.
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse provide care to the highest attainable standard as an effective member of the clinical team, in accordance with agreed Nursing Practice.
