Following the WG national review, we have identified the need to strengthen our capability and capacity in Health Protection. General health protection support activity within the Swansea Bay University Health Board currently involves collaboration and joint working with resources from the Public Health Team, Infection Prevention and Control, Vaccinations Co-ordinators, Emergency Planning and Community Care.

All these groups are represented on the Swansea Bay Regional Health Protection Forum. However, there is a need to bring better alignment of these functions within the Health Board to provide dedicated specialist strategic direction to the health protection functions from within the Health Board.

Working under the leadership of the Director of Public Health, the Consultant in Health Protection will take a lead strategic role across the full breadth of health protection including non-infectious environmental hazards - undertaking these responsibilities for the population of Swansea Bay. They will provide specialist advice, expertise and leadership, on behalf of the Director of Public Health, working with and through a wide range of organisations and partners across the region.

- Research and Development
- Contribute population health advice to the Local Authorities of Swansea and Neath Port Talbot
- Contribute to strategic planning by and support delivery through partner organisations, including the Public Services Board(s)

A detailed work plan will be drawn up with the Director of Public Health upon appointment, drawing on the key tasks outlined in this Job Description.

Applicants must be on the GMC/GDC Specialist Register/UK Public Health Register for Public Health Specialists.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
