Lead Outage Planner

Leiston, United Kingdom EDF Limited Full time

An exciting and rewarding role has arisen for the role of Outage Lead Planner at our Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station in Suffolk.

Sizewell B is currently the UK’s only Pressurised Water Reactor. We are designed to run at full period for a period of 18 months and then shutdown to refuel and compete essential maintenance, this is known as an Outage. The Outage Department prepares, plans and delivers these multi-million pound projects to ensure that Sizewell B delivers maximum power output and continues to provide low-carbon electricity to millions of homes and businesses across the UK.

As a Lead Planner in the Outage Department, depending on your skill set and best fit, you will work cross-functionally with other departments to develop and manage either the long-term outage plan as part of the multi-year team, or the upcoming outage delivery plan through project preparation and execution. You will be required to interact with multiple stakeholders both internal and external to the Station to ensure that your outage goals are met. You may be required to work appropriate shift patterns during the outage, which may include nights.

**Pay, benefits and culture**

We can offer a competitive salary from £54,391 - £84,892 and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

Our team enjoys a flexible working arrangement with a balance of working from home and the Station, although during the outage you would be required to be at the Station full time due to the requirements of the role.

What you’ll be doing

Multi Year Lead Planner:
You’ll be preparing outages up to 15 years ahead, including:

- Producing and maintaining clear and concise multi-year plans that meet our business plan and budget needs
- Working with stakeholders from other Station departments and externally to define the major scope, significant risks and potential mitigations
- Identifying, developing and optimising the critical path of these future plans
- Identifying interactions and incompatibilities with major scope items and working with the Station teams to identify solutions and develop mitigations
- Identifying and implementing innovations to simplify and improve the efficiency of outage planning and delivery
- Identifying and delivering new training packages in support of the multi-year plan delivery.

Outage Lead Planner:
You’ll be developing and managing the current outage project plan, including:

- Coordinating a team of Outage Project Planners to develop and manage their individual project plans
- Identifying and managing the required links and interactions between the project plans in the overarching Master Outage Plan
- Producing and maintaining clear and concise master plans and reporting on threats to agreed durations and budget constraints
- Responsibility for developing, optimising and communicating the Critical Path for the Outage throughout preparation and execution
- Monitoring and communicating the health of sub-critical windows in the plan
- Identifying and implementing innovations to simplify and improve the efficiency of outage planning and delivery
- Delivering new and continuing training to planners and other support roles as required.

**Who you are**

We would love to hear from you if you have experience of planning multi-discipline projects in a high hazard industry. You would need to be proficient in Primavera P6 and knowledge of nuclear plant systems would be desirable. Experience in the areas of plant operations, maintenance practices and a basic understanding of safety case principles would be beneficial. Great communication skills, attention to detail with a calm, measured approach and the ability to prioritise are all essential. Discretion when handling sensitive information is important, alongside the ability to challenge and adopt a questioning attitude to ensure that safety remains our overriding priority.

As a minimum, you will have a relevant HNC (or equivalent) and holding a relevant degree may be an advantage. You should have the enthusiasm, drive, ownership and ability to facilitate change, for which excellent interpersonal skills are paramount. This will also mean you should have the ability to manage cross-functional working groups, encouraging a team ethos to help develop and deliver effective work programmes.
