**Job Purpose**

To assist the Technical Manager in the management of all aspects of quality assurance within Altham Fine Foods and Althams Butchers so that the best possible procedures are in place which will allow top quality, safe and legal products to be produced at all times. To assist the Technical Manager in the management of customer complaints so that not only are solutions found quickly for the customer but also preventative measures put in place to prevent any future recurrence. To be a proactive and constructive member of the Technical Team and to proactively support the maintenance and development of the company’s reputation and a great place to work.

**Principal Accountabilities**
- To proactively communicate the company’s vision, strategy and values and to ensure that all employees within the factory understand how their individual efforts contribute to the achievement of overall company objectives.
- To assist the Technical Manager in the management of all aspects of quality assurance within the company so that the best possible procedures are in place which will allow for the supply of safe, legal and authentic products to the agreed specifications at all times.
- To actively promote the growth and development of the Food Safety Culture within the Businesses
- To assist the Technical Manager in managing customer complaints so that not only are solutions found quickly for the customer but also preventative measures put in place to prevent any future recurrence.
- To define and agree internal product specifications.
- To support the Technical Manager with aspects of quality control within the company so that any incoming product, outgoing product or work in progress which does not conform to the pre-agreed standards is identified and appropriate corrective action taken.
- To support the Factory Manager and the Technical Manager in continuously improving the operations of the factory, by contributing to the generation of new ideas.
- To assist the Technical Manager in ensuring that all legal and audit requirements, including health & safety, are met.

**Quality Management**
- The QA Officer is sufficiently familiar with all company procedures to be able to know at a glance whether or not they are being correctly implemented.
- The QA Officer observes, audits and documents the extent to which company procedures are being put into practice. Where procedures are not being followed this is immediately fed back to the relevant member of the factory management team. If existing procedures are impractical, potential improvements are recommended to the Technical Manager.
- The QA Officer carries out internal and external audits, as requested by the Technical Manager.
- The QA Officer assists the Technical Manager in ensuring that the results of all audits are acted upon and liaises appropriately with the managers responsible in this respect.
- The QA Officer assists the Technical Manager in ensuring that all company marks and accreditations are successfully retained on an annual basis.
- Supplier audits, including the verification of alleged accreditations, are carried out when requested by the Technical Manager.
- The QA Officer assists the Technical Manager in ensuring that all customer complaints are reviewed and that corrective and preventative actions are agreed and implemented which will not only solve the initial problem but also prevent it from happening again in the future.
- Internal product specifications, including photographs and instructions, are routinely prepared by the QA Officer and presented to the Technical Manager for authorisation.
- The QA Officer takes responsibility for preventing non-conforming product from being produced and/or leaving the factory. Production is stopped, where necessary, to achieve this objective.
- The QA Officer assists the Technical Manager in liaising proactively with suppliers and customers on technical issues.
- All incoming and outgoing products and raw materials, including packaging and labelling, are religiously inspected on a sample basis.
- Technical induction is carried out for new employees and those needing refresher training, as requested by the HR Manager.
- The QA Officer assists the Factory Manager and the Technical Manager in the professional and effective identification of hazards and critical control points.
- The QA Officer assists the Technical Manager in ensuring that complete, accurate and thorough records are kept of all company processes affecting the quality of the product so that full traceability is achieved.
- The QA Officer works closely with the Factory and Technical Management Teams to ensure that all factory procedures are fit for purpose and respected and adhered to by all members of staff and provides feedback and makes suggestions in this respect.
