Mechanical Design Engineer

Founded in 2001, our client is a leading manufacturer in electron microscopy coating and cryogenic preparation, amongst other instrumentation such as critical point dryers and flow discharge systems for Transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

**(Design Engineer) - Position Overview)**
- Responsible for design and development of a broad range of new products for Cryo-EM sample preparation.
- Work as part of NPD teams to design and develop mechanical solutions, meeting project timescales Liaising with Sales, Marketing and OEM customers to define user interface needs and documenting them in technical requirements.
- Creating CAD (SolidWorks), BOMs and assembly structures, allocating new part numbers for new products.
- Manufacturing, assembly, and testing of prototypes.
- Generating bills of materials and support documentation, prior to the release of production to Production.
- Working in conjunction with electrical, electronic, and software design to create an integrated solution meeting market requirements.
- Support of existing Quorum product range through the engineering change process

**(Design Engineer) - Position Requirments)**
- Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
- Mechanical design and hands-on development experience working on scientific equipment or similar.
- Competence in using SolidWorks and PDM
- Design calculations and development test report writing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to cope with rapidly changing demands on time and prioritise jobs according to urgency.
- Excellent communication skills, the ability to challenge and question while maintaining positive relationships.
- Valid driving licence
- Valid passport
- Desirable:_
- Vacuum system design, build & testing (typical pressures to 1 x 10-7 mbar)
- Design of LN2 cooled systems.
- MRP system experience (preferably SAP Business One).
- Conductive coating technology.
- BOM structuring and maintenance.
- Automation control.

**(Design Engineer) - Position Remuneration)**
- £35,000 salary
