Birmingham, United Kingdom Birmingham Children’s Trust Full time

We are one of the biggest exploitation teams in the country and we are known regionally and nationally for our innovative practice for this field.

We are looking for two inspiring Exploitation and Missing Co-ordinators who are passionate about safeguarding children. You will join an established multi agency/ multi-disciplinary partnership hub and work alongside as part of a team of 7 Co-ordinators. The role requires collaborative working to effectively respond to children who go missing and or are being exploited or groomed and those who are vulnerable to a variety of risks. Birmingham is a diverse city and one with a young population, as such we are seeking Co-ordinators who are not afraid of change, of challenging others and coping in a fast-paced environment.

You will be familiar with the contextual safeguarding framework and develop assessments within this to; map, analyse intelligence, join up the dot’s, and come up with interventions that make real difference to the lived experiences of children, young people and families. In addition to your daily role coordinating planning, disruption and responses to risk, you will also have the opportunity to develop the links between the community and the Empower U Hub to tackle the exploitation of young people in Birmingham. Bringing on board key agencies, local community organisations parents/carers and children themselves is a key objective of the hub, you will be central to driving the agenda toward a shared vision and direction of travel across the city to tackle exploitation and serious youth violence making it _everybody’s business._ Your role will contribute to and be part of the exciting development towards a community based approach and community involvement in this area of work underpinned by anti-racist, anti-oppressive, trauma responsive, culturally competent and children centric practice. This approach combines the wherewithal and passion of statutory youth and third sector organisations including faith leads keeping children and parents/carers at the heart of everything we do.

So ‘we do with, not do to’ empower not disempower.

You will have a passion for children, families and communities who have experienced child exploitation and / or been missing and have an excellent understanding of how children are targeted, groomed and exploited. You will be able to give examples of how you been involved in disrupting perpetrators and also you will be open to learning new disruption methods working with other partners. You will have a good relevant degree (and an advantage will be to have a relevant professional qualification).

You will be raising awareness of exploitation and missing issues amongst social workers, family support workers and youth offending workers and others, as well as contributing to the work with partner agencies in the city to increase professional knowledge around risks to young people from outside of the family.
