**Project Summary**
The M6 between junctions 21a and 26 is a key strategic route carrying around 120,000 vehicles daily between Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, and Greater Manchester. Congestion and unreliable journey rimes are currently experienced at busy periods and trafficis predicted to grow. The scheme will relieve congestion and the smooth flow of traffic, improving safety and journey times.
The Smart motorway solution is a technology-driven approach to tackling the most congested parts of the motorway network, improving journey reliability by controlling the flow and speed of traffic. This supports the economy by providing much-needed capacityon the busiest motorways, while maintaining safety for road users and those who work on the roads.
**Key responsibilities**
- Ensure that the procedural requirements are in place on the scheme to comply with The Costain Way and the Smart Motorway Alliance Quality Management Plan
- Ensure that the Project Quality Plans are in place, maintained, kept up to date, and that additional controls are added to suit the site practice
- Ensure that all relevant project staff are aware of the contents of the Project Quality Plans
- Liaise and co-ordinate with Quality Management Teams of Smart Motorway Alliance partner organisations
- Prepare and issue Quality Reports to the Smart Motorway Alliance
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with the site delivery and Quality Verification Team
- Support the Sub-contract Package Managers, Materials Engineer and the Construction Team
- Promote a continuous improvement and right first-time culture on the project
- Provide training/assistance/mentoring in Quality systems to site-based staff as required during the project lifecycle
- Share best practice and lessons learnt
- Chair quality management meetings for the wider team including client representatives, including Quality Risk Reviews
- Manage the inspection and testing regime
- Manage the ITP, NCR, corrective action and defect management process
- Support the package managers and handover manager with the production/sign-off of documentation for handover, including verification records and as built information
- Embrace the Costain Operational Excellence Model and manage the completion and verification of the Quality Excellence Assessment
**Skills**
- The ability to identify key issues, evaluate data, and draw informed conclusions
- Strong written and verbal communication and negotiating skills
- Confident facilitator and presenter
- Ability to write both procedural documents and less formal training materials in a clear and consistent manner
- Effective time and workload management
- Ability to define goals and plan to deliver them
- Ability to work to deadlines and manage changing priorities
- Ability and desire to travel to meet the requirements of the role
- High level computer literacy
- Flexible approach
**Qualifications & Experience (preferred/desired)**
- Educated to Diploma or degree level in a quality or engineering related discipline
- ISO9001 trained Auditor (Registered Lead Auditor preferred, IRCA recognised)
- Membership of a relevant quality professional body (e.g. CQI/IRCA)
- Experience managing quality in a project delivery environment Experience of quality management within complex project delivery
- Experience of writing formal quality management documents and undertaking audits
- Relevant CSCS card
- Full driving license
