**Conservation Officer**

We’re looking for a Conservation Officer to join our team at Walthamstow Wetlands. In this role you’ll work to conserve and enhance the reserve and helping us to achieve our vision of London alive with nature, where everyone can experience and enjoy wildlife._**
**Role & Responsibilities**
As our Conservation Officer, you’ll undertake ecological surveying and monitoring with volunteers, as well as delivering practical habitat interventions to have a positive impact on biodiversity in accordance with the site management and maintenance plan. As a result, you’ll protect the biodiversity interests of Walthamstow Wetlands, and provide the public with a safe, biodiverse and enjoyable nature reserve.
In this role you will:
- Provide a regular staff presence at Walthamstow Wetlands, keeping the site safe and well-maintained
- Record the existing biodiversity and ecological features of Walthamstow Wetlands
- Continue the development of Walthamstow Wetlands as an outstanding example of urban nature conservation
- Be the lead ecological contact for LWT in the Lea Valley
- Promote learning and engagement through delivery of workshops and guided walks
- Work with the site teams to ensure that the volunteering and outdoor nature reserve facilities are kept clean and well-maintained
- Work with the site teams to help manage visitor behaviour in line with the site rules, including undertaking patrols and positive engagement opportunities
- Support the team with the open and close of the reserve, clearing the site of visitors at the end of the day
- Ensure health & safety practices and procedures are always followed especially during the delivery of workdays
- Act as duty manager on a regular basis in line with rota requirements
- Keep detailed records of all activity delivery on site including volunteer sessions and guided walks.
- Promote and publicise positive news relating to Walthamstow Wetlands, including public engagement activities and community volunteering opportunities on site (includes providing regular content and photos)

**Our ideal Conservation Officer**:
- Full UK driving licence (including ability to drive manual vehicles)
- Demonstrable experience of planning and delivering practical conservation work on nature reserves (including safe use of standard conservation tools)
- Experience of managing volunteers undertaking practical conservation work
- Proven ability to work with stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for biodiversity
- Understanding of conservation management plans and their implementation
- Reasonable identification skills for a range of relevant taxa
- Experience of planning and delivering community engagement activities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
