This is an exciting opportunity for 1 WTE band 3 dietetic assistant to join the Children's Dietetic team at Nottingham Children's Hospital. The dietetic team is a team of 30 consisting of dietitians ,dietetic assistants, dietetic technicians and administration staff. They look after infants, children and adolescents on special diets within the Children's Hospital across many specialities such as oncology, gastroenterology, renal and diabetes. This will include inpatients and outpatients.

This role will be responsible for the ordering and organisation of special dietary products within the hospital. They will be working across all children's specialities to ensure the correct level of nutritional products on each ward.

They will also be working closely with the oncology dietitians to support the children who are at risk from nutritional deficiencies. The role will review dietetic plans and support with the organisation of appropriate meals and snacks.

The role also work closely with all the dietitians in supporting administrative roles including typing of letters and telephone calls to patients, carers other service users.

As a large acute teaching hospital based on 2 sites, NUH has a range of fantastic opportunities for staff to develop their career within the NHS. The dietetic service is part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Service pathway which is one of the pathways that together make up the clinical support division at NUH. We are a diverse pathway of Allied Health professionals and support staff, employing over 600 staff who work together to deliver high quality care. Our HCPC registered Allied Health professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists and our other staff encompass professionals such as nurses, psychologists, administrative, clerical and support workers.

Key Job Responsibilities

Clinical

Works under the direction of dietetic staff to support an effective dietetic and nutrition service to patients and carers using agreed protocols. This will include monitoring and review of out patients and community patients in a variety of specialities, working with individuals or groups as required.

Extracts relevant information regarding patient condition, weight and nutritional intake from verbal discussion with dietitians, patients or carers and other health care staff and from patient records and other information. Communicates information gathered to dietitians and other health care staff, in support of patient care using verbal and written methods of communication as required. Information gathered may be of a sensitive nature, requiring tact and persuasion to acquire and explain, for example, information concerning patient weight or diagnosis.

Communicates required nutritional information to patients, relatives and carers where there may be barriers to communication and understanding such as cultural differences, hearing impairment, anxiety and memory loss. Uses skills of explaining, persuading and motivating to support patients, carers and staff in meeting agreed dietetic aims.

Assists the dietitians to organise the discharge and follow up of dietetic patients which may include delivering supplements and equipment within the hospital, preparing patient
