The post holder is responsible in union with the Assistant Director of Nursing for the quality and patient experience of services throughout the Division of Surgery, ensuring optimum standards of patient care via the effective and efficient management of human, financial and physical resources. The post holder will lead on a portfolio of work identified by the Assistant Director of Nursing, focused on improving the quality of care and patient experience across the Divisions supported by the Matrons and Ward Managers.

The post holder will deputise for the Assistant Director of Nursing when necessary, undertaking any responsibilities, as delegated, and leading portfolios of work as required.

The post holder will be a key senior member of the senior management team within the division working closely with the Associate Directors of Nursing, Deputy Directors of Nursing and Heads of Clinical Service, playing a key role in the, development of services and service improvement. The post holder will have a key responsibility for the delivery of the Quality agenda throughout the Division of Surgery.

The post holder will lead nursing practice in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Nursing and will be expected to develop innovative practice in relation to the provision of nursing services to patients. The post holder will be expected to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.

The jobholder will be expected to work with the minimum of supervision.
