As a Ranger, you’re the heart and soul of the National Trust in the landscapes we protect. You’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people.

**Hours**:Full time 37.5 hours per week. You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call.

**Salary**:£22,152pa

**Contract**:Fixed term contract until March 2026

What it's like to work here:As a Ranger within the Cheshire & Wirral Countryside Portfolio you will be part of a team responsible for the day-to-day care of 17 countryside sites spread from the Northern end of the Wirral peninsula to the edge of the Peak District. Habitats include woodland, lowland heath, agricultural land, and coastal meadow. Because of the large distances between sites, the portfolio is split East and West and you’ll be joining the team based in the East, with your main place of work being Alderley Edge. As we are a small team there will be occasions when you’ll be the sole member of staff and be responsible for the supervision of volunteers or be the only point of contact.

What you'll be doing:The role will cover all the properties that we manage in the east of the portfolio, which include Alderley Edge, Maggoty Wood, Eddisbury Fields, Mobberley, Mow Cop, Bosley Cloud and Lewis Carroll’s birthplace. On occasion, you’ll work with our ranger at Hare Hill another of our sites which joins Alderley Edge. Work will include delivery of our woodland plans alongside estate infrastructure maintenance and habitat restoration of heathland. As part of Riverlands there are opportunities for pond and water course restoration at both Alderley Edge & Hare Hill.

Who we're looking forYou’ll be joining a small team and as such will need to be self-motivated, self-reliant and have the ability to work alone, or with small groups of volunteers.

**You’ll need to**:

- Deliver practical conservation work to protect and enhance the conservation status of the properties
- Have good practical skills in all areas of estate maintenance, helping the team to deliver a high standard of presentation
- Have experience of working with volunteers from different backgrounds and abilities
- Demonstrate a passion for nature, heritage, and the outdoors
- Be able to engage with visitors to ensure they understand the value of your work
- Be able to work safely, with risk assessments and compliance with safety procedures
- Be able to use machinery and equipment such as chainsaws, brushcutters and tractors with relevant certificates
- Have a full UK driving licence.
