We are recruiting for excellent individuals who are passionate about supporting women and children who have been affected by domestic violence, as a Refuge Worker you will be responsible for providing high quality practical and emotional support to survivors of domestic violence and their children living in our refuges.

**Responsibilities**

This is an opportunity to join Refuge as a Refuge Worker to provide high quality practical and emotional support to survivors of domestic violence and their children living in our refuges.

In the role the key responsibilities will be to support victims of domestic violence and their children by collaborating with them to provide safe accommodation, ensuring that they have access to all options and services while also ensuing that they understand their rights.

The post holder will provide high quality support and safety planning to women and children in crisis. This includes enabling women to access housing, welfare, benefits, and legal advice. A key requirement is to provide personal welfare support and to ensure that women are provided with a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment in accordance with Refuge’s philosophical principles.

**Essential Skills or Experience**

Experience in providing direct emotional practical and welfare support, the ability to build and develop supportive relationships with individuals who may have complex needs, the ability to build effective relationships, both internally and externally, showing sensitivity for others’ viewpoints, and valuing diversity.

Knowledge of the dynamics and impact of domestic violence and other forms of violence and abuse and how best to support survivors. Up-to-date knowledge of legislation relating to survivors of domestic violence and other forms of violence and abuse.

**Desirable Skills or Experience**

Experience in identifying and responding to the risks to and needs of survivors of domestic violence and other forms of violence and abuse, ability to provide, non-judgemental, non-directive, and confidential support to women to take control of their lives and set realistic objectives and goals, take responsibility for own actions and behavior able to reflect on previous experiences to improve own practice.
