Job description

**Hours: 22.2 **hours per week (with possibility of extending to full time)**

**Contract: Fixed term - 2 years**

We have an exciting opportunity to contribute towards improving the wellbeing of people in North Somerset. We’re looking for a talented Mental Health & Wellbeing Specialist to join our Health Improvement Team in the Public Health and Regulatory Services Directorate at North Somerset Council.

This is an important role and will be crucial in helping us to deliver the key projects and actions identified in the North Somerset Health and Wellbeing Strategy. You will work alongside a team of managers, officers, and external partners focusing on delivering a framework of interventions to meet the mental health and wellbeing needs of the local population. Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to, supporting the design and implementation of planned mental health projects on trauma and adversity, self-harm amongst young people, and men’s mental health. You will also support the team in running external community grant programmes, the coordination of local wellbeing awareness campaigns and be responsible for the mental wellbeing content on the North Somerset Better Health Website.

**About you**

You will support the Public Health Team in achieving core public health objectives - namely improving health and reducing health inequalities, protecting and improving health, and contributing to the quality of local public health services. This will be evidenced by your commitment to addressing inequalities in health and wellbeing.

You will have previous knowledge and experience around supporting the development of population and community-based public health initiatives that promote mental health and wellbeing. You will have qualifications to at least level 4 and have additional specialist training and practical experience working in public health, health improvement, and/or mental health.

You will have experience and be confident using Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Excel and Word.

You will have excellent communication skills that you will use to support engagement with service users, stakeholders and communities.

We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who have a passion for improving population mental health and who may have previous knowledge and experience working and/or volunteering in this area.

**Why North Somerset Council?**

You will play a vital role at North Somerset Council, ensuring that, as a council and place, we are delivering efficient, and effective services, and support to the people of North Somerset. In return, we'll help you to achieve a healthy work-life balance through a generous annual leave package, membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, flexible, hybrid and matrix working arrangements, and a supportive and collaborative management structure. Our new system of agile working means that although your work base will be Castlewood Clevedon, you will also be able to work from home.

In addition, you will be working in a supportive environment where you will have the chance to make North Somerset a healthier, happier and fairer place to live. Information about North Somerset’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy can be found here; and the North Somerset Council Corporate Plan can be accessed here.
