**Management Trainee**

**About Us**

Portland are the UK’s recognised experts on all things fuel. Set up in 2009, Portland began as a specialized hedging provider; ten years on, we offer a wide range of services, covering every aspect of the downstream fuel sector. As such, we are frequently asked to appear on mainstream media platforms to discuss commodity markets and energy developments. Based in the City of York, our international business employs 40 people, most of whom are under the age of 30. Our professional environment is lively and fast-paced making this a dynamic place to build a career.

**The Role**

We are seeking motivated individuals to join our three year management programme from September 2023. You will fulfil six placements, each one lasting six months, thus allowing the opportunity to try a variety of different roles before successfully graduating from the scheme. The placements are extremely varied and will typically take place in the following departments where you will be empowered to make business critical decisions on a day to day basis - **Marketing**, **Business Development**, **Finance**, and **Operations**, including:

- Portland Fuel Price Protection; our international fuel hedging business
- Portland Fuel; our physical fuel supply business, selling liquid fuels across the UK and NW Europe
- Portland Analytics & Pricing; our pricing and analytical subscription business
- Portland CSO Trading; our emergency fuel stocking business, working closely with UK & EU Governments
- Portland Green; our renewables business focusing on carbon offsets, fuel from waste and diesel emission reducers

**Travel**

There will be frequent travel around the UK and occasional European/North American business trips. Excitingly, at least one of the placements will be based in our German or Canadian offices.

**Training**

Full training and support will be provided, including an in-house training coordinator (responsible for structuring your personal development) and a dedicated external performance coach. We will work with you to identify a path for career development so that by the end of the three years you will be in an informed position to decide your next managerial steps within the company. There may be opportunities for further studies or workplace development as you progress.

**Future Prospects**

Upon successful completion of the training scheme, you will have acquired the following skills:

- A thorough understanding of business finance (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cashflow, Reserves, Foreign Exchange, Banking)
- International business experience (EU, North America and Emerging Markets)
- The implementation of Marketing and Business Development plans
- Operations - the ability to work fast and decisively under pressure
- Expertise in all aspects of commodity markets (spot prices, forward markets, price spreads, derivatives)
