Associate Case Officer - Banking Authorisations

The Role- The Banking Authorisations Team sits in our Authorisations Division and works closely with the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) in assessing whether potential new banks, both domestic and international, meet the standards to operate in the UK market.- It is an exciting time for the team as we continually adapt to new and varied banking business models, the increasing use of digital channels that introduce new and innovative customer offerings whilst simultaneously implementing the FCA’S Approach to International Firms following the UK’s departure from the European Union.-
- You will be supported to make use of sound project management disciplines to ensure that the transactions you are accountable for are progressed effectively, co-ordinating and prioritising/re-prioritising effectively where necessary.

What does this job involve? What are the key responsibilities?- Assess, investigate and mitigate harm arising at the gateway using experience, knowledge and judgement to make recommendations and decisions- Analysing financial and non-financial information about firm’s business models and strategies to inform your overall assessment of harm- Collaborating with colleagues, sharing your knowledge and learning from others- Managing complex and varied caseload, ensuring relevant deadlines are met-
- Challenging and influencing skills, communicating assertively with firms to resolve any issues- Communicating with confidence- Identifying and delivering difficult messages to applicant firms and/or external stakeholders- Escalating risks, issues and other points of note (e.g. trends) in a timely manner;- Drafting clear and concise case decision papers and risk escalation reports- Presenting information to Senior Management and/or Committees- Contribution to various projects in the team and wider department- The opportunity to think strategically- The opportunity to positively influence new bank business models through regular engagement with the Executive and Board of new banks;- Developing and maintaining excellent relationships and networks across the FCA, the PRA and various other stakeholders;- Freedom to exercise and display sound judgement and initiative, using various sources of information and intelligence;- The opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills of others;- The opportunity to engage with the challenges of managing different and often innovative business and operating models including cutting edge fin-tech propositions and firms operating in the cryptoasset market;- Challenging others constructively on sensitive issues around suitability and delivering difficult messages;- Demonstrating clear and logical thinking though oral and written work;

Skills/Experience Required

Minimum- Experience of analysing, investigating and assessing information to reach the right outcome- Experience of managing internal and external stakeholders at all levels- Experience of the UK regulatory framework.

Essential- Understanding of banking and/or payments business models or experience of analysing business models and identifying risks facing firms or their customers;- Ability to make logical and timely decisions- Ability to analyse and summarise complex information (both financial and non-financial) and draw out key points- Proactive approach to work and able to use your own initiative and prioritise where necessary- Willing to learn and develop, take on new responsibilities and adopt a flexible approach to your work- Ability and willingness to adapt to change, positively embracing new approaches- A great team player, able to work together with the team to achieve positive outcomes

Desirable- Experience of proactively managing casework to tight deadlines- Relevant and recent experience working in a regulatory and/or policy/compliance/investigation/legal

Useful Information- This role is graded Associate 8 Regulatory- The FCA has a national role and is committed to a national footprint. This role can be based in London,Edinburgh or Leeds.- The FCA has London and National Pay ranges to reflect regional differences. The salary for this role will be:
- London - The salary will be £42,000 - £45,000 plus a competitive- benefits package
- and non-contributory pension.- National The salary will be £38,000 - £43,000 plus a competitive- benefits package

The FCA supports hybrid working and you will be expected to work 40% of your time over a month, in our office. We will consider other flexible arrangements, for example part time working, and you can discuss this with the recruiter.
