Colchester Hospital has an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic individuals to join our caring, supportive, and compassionate theatre teams as a Theatre Support Worker. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate and committed to delivering high-quality patient focused care.

At Colchester, our theatre suites comprise of 17 days case and inpatient theatres. Main theatres have patients for General/Laparoscopic, Vascular, Urology, Robotics and Emergency Surgery. There will be opportunity to gain skills in other specialties by rotating internally to the other theatre suites.

Please note you maybe required to undertake a Numeracy & Literacy test as part of the pre employment checks.

In this role you will support patients throughout their theatre journey, working with a multi-disciplinary theatre team ensuring an individual, safe and positive experience.

Assisting in the preparation of the operating theatre with equipment and supplies and participating in circulating duties, providing the Scrub Practitioner with the necessary materials and equipment while adhering to strict Aseptic principles.

Assisting with the moving and handling of patients ensuring that patient privacy and dignity are respected at all times.

Completion of the Intraoperative patient record and accurate traceability of theatre equipment and implants.

Actively participate in maintaining a clean environment, being aware of, and demonstrate adherence to the Hospital’s policy on infection control with special attention to provision and use of PPE and sharps awareness.

Demonstrating and maintaining awareness of patient confidentiality and ensure a safe and secure environment at all times.

If you are passionate about patient care and want to develop your skills and knowledge then we are keen to hear from you.
- Provide a supportive role to all members of the theatre team in the delivery of patient care
- Prepare the theatre for the operating list
- Complete forms and electronic records as appropriate to each case, ensuring that these are accurate, legible and complete.
- Assist with gowning and gloving, opening of packs/instruments/sundries and pour lotions.
- Assist in the safe transfer and positioning of patients between the anaesthetic room/theatre/recovery
- Perform the duties of a circulating assistant.
- Clear and clean theatre and equipment between cases
- Maintain stock levels in theatres and carry out stores management
- Maintain stocks of linen/theatre clothing
- Perform some domestic/housekeeping duties
- Contribute to the implementation of competencies, policies and procedures of the unit
- Following orientation & training act as supervisor to learner support workers and as support to other inexperienced theatre staff
- Participate in the provision of a 24-hour emergency service
