Bristol, United Kingdom University of Bristol Full time

**The role**:
Ready to be at the forefront of a transformative research project aligning with the UK's ambitious sustainability targets? We have an exciting opportunity to join our team at the University of Bristol on a large-scale programme grant (£6.1m) collaborating with Imperial College, and the University of Cambridge.

The UK Government has set ambitious goals for "net zero emissions" and "zero waste" as part of their 10 Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution. However, the current practices of sourcing, processing, and deploying advanced materials are unsustainable, relying heavily on fossil fuels and scarce resources. This contributes to over 30% of the UK's CO2 emissions, exacerbated by the import of raw precursors and materials.

Our programme envisions a future where our most critical functional materials are derived from locally available bio-based resources. By harnessing these materials, we will significantly reduce CO2 emissions, supporting the target of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. This initiative will drive the high-performance technologies, foster local industries, and lay the foundation for a modern, technology-driven economy.

**What will you be doing?**:
Your responsibilities will include:

- Take centre stage in an experimental program aimed at extracting fibres from plant-based biomass to create functional composites.
- Utilise your analytical prowess to conduct comprehensive statistical analysis of fibre properties.
- Showcase your expertise in spinning regenerated cellulose fibres, a crucial step in creating continuous reinforced materials.
- Collaborate closely with fellow researchers in the grant program, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and innovation.
- Harness your talent for producing high quality, high impact research papers.
- Background in experimental determination of physical properties of natural fibres (cellulosic or other) and composites.
- Excellent grasp of materials science concepts and production of fibers and composites, with a focus on renewable resources.
- Experience in writing research papers and presenting at international conferences.
- Proficient in engaging with and working within a large team of researchers.
- Ability to produce high-quality reports and presentations on research findings.

For a full view of requirements please look at the job description attached below, but if the aforementioned describes you, we’d encourage you to apply.

**Why choose us?**
