**Job Summary**

The IWM 14-18 NOW Legacy Fund is a national programme of over 20 artist commissions inspired by the heritage of conflict. Led by Imperial War Museums, the IWM 14-18 NOW Legacy Fund was created following the success of 14-18 NOW, the official UK arts programme for the First World War centenary. Through the Legacy Fund programme, IWM is working with cultural organisations across the UK to create ambitious new artworks by world-leading, mid-career and emerging artists, that will be delivered at sites across the UK as well as at IWM branches until circa 2026. These new commissions continue to forge new opportunities for artistic engagement, bringing art and our storytelling to audiences in new and relevant ways by connecting people, places and experiences, and supporting cultural and sector dialogue as arts and heritage recovers from the wide-reaching impacts of COVID-19.

We have a new opportunity to join the cross-departmental Legacy Fund programme team working from our London and IWM North branches. The Legacy Fund team consists of: Head of Art and Head of Partnerships (co-leads), 2 x Partnerships Managers (1 role = 4 days, 1 role = 2 days), Programme Officer, Communications Officer.

This Senior Curator role will provide a lead voice in ongoing creative and strategic development, direction of travel and roll out of this exciting commission programme. Key responsibilities will be to seek out and develop the scope of artist opportunities, manage artist and relevant creative relationships, and act as an authoritative source of advice for partners in relation to their own artist engagement and relationship management. The post-holder will act as a primary point of contact and advice for curatorial narrative and content development, and as a conduit for collating and sharing broad and diverse IWM collections and expertise. A flair for proactive communication with external and internal stakeholders, and broader advocacy for the programme and its wide impacts, will also be important. The role will also include direct curatorial development and curatorial leadership for two IWM site commissions.

The IWM 14-18 NOW Legacy Fund commission programme is a priority project for IWM in the next two years and provides a unique and exciting framework for joining the organisation. This is also a role that prioritises our and our partners’ audiences by reaching them in new - sometimes untested - ways. The role will demand imaginative and dynamic thinking, an ability to use initiative, bring and share ideas, the balancing of priorities, a confident track record and careful time management. Working in partnership with broad sector colleagues and artists, often outside of the museum walls, will be a significant component of the role. Travel and cross-site working is expected in this role.

Your duties will include:

- Work with partners to identify, commission and manage artists for the IWM 1418 NOW Legacy Fund programme, and be a key point of contact for partners and artists in the development of individual projects and overall artistic best practice for the programme
- Identify and develop ways that partners and artists can engage with the IWM collections, and act as an authority in the use of IWM collections within the artist commission projects, where necessary collating and sharing expertise from the wider IWM community
- Advise partners and stakeholders on the curatorial development of commission projects to ensure that they support and align with the strategic vision, direction and shape of the IWM 1418 NOW Legacy Fund programme as a whole
- Where relevant, contribute to, edit or oversee partners’ content and interpretation development as it relates to art practice, collections and broader curatorial narrative development
- In particular, curate specific projects within the overall commission programme, including working with IWM Exhibitions and Interpretation colleagues, the Head of Art, and wider core Legacy Fund team, to develop two IWM site commissions
- Identify relevant opportunities to support the culture of learning and sharing in and for the network of commission partners
- Communicate and advocate in a variety of ways for the role, value, and transformational impact of the IWM 1418 NOW Legacy Fund programme and ways to working to key internal and external stakeholders, partners and audiences
- Contribute to relevant public and sector-facing outputs and demonstrate innovation and good practice including in talks, events and writing
- Horizon scan for opportunities to enhance and deepen participation with and impact of the IWM 1418 NOW Legacy Fund programme, and for other IWM benefits
- Support, mentor and collaborate with the IWM 1418 NOW Legacy Fund team; atten
