**About this role**:
The ultimate purpose of this role is to lead the laboratory team in Bromley creating and engaged and professional team to ensure the delivery of a high quality and fully compliant laboratory service (primarily asbestos bulk-sampling analysis) for our clients. This in turn will support the operational and commercial performance of the asbestos team in delivering our key business objectives and targets and the asbestos service plan objectives and targets.

In conjunction with the Laboratory Manager and through the effective supervision of the Bromley Laboratory team (as applicable) the job holder will be required to ensure that all client works are being delivered in accordance with contractual requirements and to the required level of quality in accordance with our UKAS accreditation.

**Key Accountabilities and responsibilities**:
The job holder is accountable for the effective delivery of all laboratory and quality assurance services in the laboratory. This includes:

- Supervision of laboratory staff creating an engaged and professional team
- Laboratory services including in-house laboratory analysis and asbestos sampling
- Compliance with all UKAS requirements and other quality standards
- Quality auditing
- Quality assurance
- Asbestos related training and development for trainees and other laboratory staff

The job holder will directly line-manage the Laboratory Technicians and Laboratory Trainees in Bromley.

The job holder will work collaboratively with other leaders across the business to ensure we have an integrated approach to service delivery, which delivers our key business objectives and targets and our asbestos service plan objectives and targets.

Responsibilities include:
- **Supervision & Line Management **- you will line manage the Laboratory Technicians and any Laboratory Trainees. You will provide effective daily supervision to the team, providing support, guidance and through the line management structure and ensure line management activities are delivered to a consistently high standard. They may include recruitment, inductions, briefings and staff engagement, people management, people development, H&S, management of resources, managing performance and managing compliance.
- **Laboratory Services** - Laboratory services include air sampling, bulk sampling, fibre counting, bulk identification, water absorption testing. You will measure and report on productivity levels within the laboratory, produce work splits for the team, produce daily status reports to ensure we know where we are up to and working in the most appropriate order of samples.

- ** **Quality Control **- you will ensure we remain consistently and fully up to date with asbestos legislation, guidance and industry best practice. You will support our UKAS accreditation and quality management arrangements. You will embed a culture of attention to detail and high levels of quality in all asbestos related work and embed this with all members of the team.
- ** **Auditing** - you will support the Laboratory and Quality Manager with our quality assurance and auditing regime. This may include providing the sample survey audits on a monthly basis for completion by the Head of Asbestos, Technical Manager, and Asbestos Operations Managers.
- ** **Equipment** - you will support the Laboratory Manager with the management of all equipment, PPE, inventory, consumables, waste management and calibration reminders.
- ** **Customer Relationship Management** - in conjunction with the Asbestos Operations Manager(s) you will foster positive, productive and long-lasting relationships with each of our clients.
- ** **Training - **Carry out training of new employees**.**
