**The difference you will make as a Specialist Support Worker**

Since 1999 Riverside has been a leading provider of innovative services to veterans from all 3 Armed Services and now with funding through the Reducing Veteran Homelessness Programme, we are looking to recruit staff to enhance the support package delivered to veterans residing in The Beacon.

The Beacon is based at Catterick Garrison and consists of 31 fully furnished self-contained flats on a short-term basis (up to 18 months) and offers support to veterans to develop the skills required allowing them to move on and live independently.

Underpinning our service delivery vision is a joint commitment to change and improve, not only what we do, but how we work with our customers. The Beacon team will work in line with nationally recognised standards of best practice and people with lived experience will now play a central role in all aspects of service development.

An opportunity has arisen for the position of Specialist Support Worker, providing tailor made support packages, focusing on supporting veterans back into training and education which will enable them to obtain successful employment, along with providing psychological Informed environment principles.

As a team, we will be able to transform the lives of veterans who have been affected by various issues throughout their lives who may have experienced issues such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Addictions, Offending behaviours, Mental Health issues, Relationship Breakdowns, Physical Injuries, Homelessness etc

We are looking for someone who has experience working with Veterans or time spent serving in the Armed Forces and have and understanding of the needs of veterans and the challenges they face. You will have a targeted approach which is highly successful in engagement.

**About you**

We are looking for someone with:

- Recent experience of support work, risk management and managing caseloads and working with vulnerable and diverse customer groups.
- Experience of working in challenging environments with the ability to plan, prioritise and organise tasks to achieve results.
- Experience of working with and supporting Veterans
- An understanding of the challenges, traumas and barriers faced by Veterans at risk of homelessness.
- An understanding of diverse customer groups with complex needs.
- Team player with a caring, empathetic, flexible approach and a resilient, can-do attitude.

**Role Profile**
- As the Specialist Support Worker you will support the Service Manager with planning within the service, this could include delegating case management, or supporting the service to run effectively.
- Actively connect, engage, influence, and develop relationships with a range of local services and stakeholders to enable customers to access the full range of community resources and regularly update colleagues about how to access external services.
- Attend networking events, other support services and forums promoting our Psychologically Informed Framework and Trauma Informed ways of working.
- Understand local pathways and services to ensure there is a consistent, asset-based support approach for all customers.
