**GDPR Officer**sought by a company that plays a key role in influencing education policies. The largest of its kind in the UK, it is driven by its commitment to making education a great industry to work in.
**The Role**:
Reporting to the Head of Information Systems, as GDPR Support Officer you will be the primary contact for any data protection activity across the company including the lay structure.
- Work closely with the company’s Data Protection Officer (DPO) to maximise awareness and understanding of data protection legislation, and compliance requirements within the legal framework, and Company policies, procedures and business processes.
- Support the company’s DPO with the company’s GDPR compliance programme to ensure legal and internal compliance expectations are met, and data protection and governance is incorporated into business as usual.
- Develop monitoring and auditing processes to assess the company’s compliance against agreed compliance framework targets.
- Develop monitoring and auditing processes to track data processing activities across the NEU, and ensure security guidelines, and data processing agreements are in place with external agencies that are accessing personal data.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, teams and relevant Working Group(s) to develop and drive data protection compliance initiatives, providing support and guidance on related matters. This includes facilitating the company’s GDPR working group.
- Provide support and undertake, for some projects, 'data protection impact assessments’ (DPIAs), data mapping exercises and ensuring data sharing agreements and associated contracts with 3rd parties supports GDPR compliance.
- Ensure the company responds to all data protection enquiries within the legal timeframe. This includes assisting with complaints, request for personal data, and potential GDPR breach investigations.
- Maintain and upgrade skills in line with relevant UK data protection policies, PECR and changing technology to ensure effective performance in this role.

**The successful GDPR Officer will demonstrate**:

- In-depth knowledge and recent relevant and demonstrable experience of data protection legislation, GDPR compliance, frameworks and data governance
- Understanding of the Information Commissioners office (ICO) processes
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills
- Good working knowledge of MS Office, redaction products and data extraction skills
- Experience of supporting data protection activity throughout an organisation, preferably a voluntary organisation e.g. support for staff base and our lay structure
- Experience of establishing and managing effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to plan, set goals and prioritise work
- Resolving GDPR and Data Protection (DP) Legislation especially PECR rules as it conflicts with company activity, at times with a limited window to give an opinion or advise of risks
- Ability to find solutions and effective compromise balancing the needs of the company with data protection responsibilities
- Ability to evaluate information to respond to a range of queries within established guidelines and procedures
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to understand complex information
- Experience of exercising judgement and ability to make decisions within accepted parameters; balancing risks with operational requirements
- Ability to undertake research projects
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Experience in the preparation and sharing of data protection information of a detailed and sensitive nature (Subject Access Request (SAR)/data disclosures)
- Experience of influencing effectively at a senior level presenting an informed opinion to support minimising data protection risks to the company
- Strong communication skills, able to relate and explain to a range of people and situations
- Ability to produce clear, high quality and accessible written materials on detailed, complex and technical issues for a range of audiences, internal and external
