Head of Academic Standards and Quality

**1. Purpose**
- To manage the operations of the Academic Standards and Quality Office, ensuring that operating arrangements are reviewed regularly and remain fit for purpose.
- To manage all staff in the Academic Standards and Quality Office
- To ensure that academic standards and quality assurance arrangements with GBS partner universities and Pearson are met at all times.
- To ensure that the policies and procedures of awarding bodies (Pearson, partner universities) and, as appropriate, the GBS Quality Assurance Manual are fully and consistently implemented across all GBS campuses and programmes of study.
- To ensure that all changes to the regulatory environment are both communicated to all relevant parties and complied with.
- To ensure that all relevant data and information pertaining to Standards and Quality at GBS are available in appropriate formats and in a timely fashion.
- To take a lead role in the preparation for any external reviews
**2. Key Responsibilities**
- To manage the operations of ASQO and allocate staff workloads to ensure that work is conducted to the highest standard and to set deadlines.
- To develop and write quality reports both internally for GBS, including the annual quality monitoring report, and for GBS Partner organisations.
- To play a pro-active role in quality enhancement of the student learning experience across all of GBS’s campuses.
- To work collaboratively and effectively with Deans, Associate Deans, Level and
Cohort Leaders, Student Success Tutors and other GBS professional services staff.
- To attend the weekly Student Performance meetings, responding proactively and ensuring actions allocate are dealt with effectively.
- To be responsible for the internal GBS approval of programmes and modules process and ensure that all new programmes are consistent with relevant policies and procedures before presenting to external university/governmental approval/validation panels.
- To ensure minutes of meetings produced by staff in ASQO are of the highest standard and to be responsible for training ASQO and other staff across GBS in minute taking and related secretarial duties.
- To ensure that GBS Board/Committees schedules are published on an annual basis and that meetings are arranged in a timely manner, including agendas, documents and minutes of previous meetings.
- To ensure quality assurance and enhancement at GBS supports a cycle of continuous improvement, leading the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of enhancements.
- To liaise with the Planning, Information and Delivery team to facilitate, co
- ordinate and undertake internal quality audit tasks as appropriate to the needs of the
GBS and demands of awarding bodies/partner organisations.
- To attend and progress actions, as appropriate, of partnership operations meetings and strategic partnership meetings, as required.
- To contribute to preparing GBS for submission to the Office for Students for degree awarding powers (DAPs), Access and Participation plan (APP) and ensuring any ongoing scrutiny is successfully navigated in respect of Quality and Standards.
- To take a key role in the preparations for, and responses to, any QAA Quality and Standards Review (QSR).
- To chair GBS boards/committees and working/project groups, as required.
- Take on special projects as required and related to the role of Head of
Academic Standards and Quality Office.
- To work efficiently, accurately and with attention to detail.
**3. Reporting Lines**
- The Head of the Academic Standards and Quality Office reports directly to the
- The Head of ASQO may be asked to provide written and verbal reports to the
Chair of Executive Board, Chief Executive Officer and other senior staff.
**4. Liaison with Staff Internal and External to GBS**
- Liaises with Deans, Associate Dean(s), Student Success, Tutors, Programme
Leads, teaching staff and professional services staff, as appropriate.
- Liaise, as appropriate and required, with GBS partner universities and other external organisations in relation to quality assurance and quality enhancement.
**5. Essential Attributes**
- Excellent understanding of quality assurance and quality enhancement, and external requirements of quality reviews, including the Office for Students, QAA.
- Experience of people management and ensuring deadlines set are met
- Experience of workload and workflow management
- Understanding of requirements for degree awarding powers
- Excellent written skills with extensive experience of report writing
- Ability to compile, analyse and evaluate qualitative and quantitative data to incorporate into reports
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to work to challenging deadlines and deliver set objectives
- Good organisational skills.
- Willing to travel to GBS campuses.
