Sen Befriender Required in S9

**Ibk is a community based, not-for-profit social enterprise with over 20 years’ experience of providing Direct Payment Support to families, children and adults of all ages with a range of needs. We run a successful befriending service, providing bespoke support to young people under 18 to lead happy and independent lives.**

IBK are in search for a befriender for a family and their 11 year old son in the S9 area of Sheffield. Being a befriender will mean supporting the young person to be more confident around others and build their independence in social situations.

This child has autism, he has an intervention worker in social care doing nurturing and mentoring work and also has support with his education. Befriending will offer him more opportunities to use what he is learning in social situations

He can become anxious due to noise and crowds sand needs sensitive support to keep him safe and reduce the risk of him absconding. He can struggle with having demands placed on him and needs support his emotional regulation. His befriender will need to be aware of the early signs of him becoming dysregulated and work with him to find solutions and keep calm.

This young person has a range of things he enjoys and being engaged in activities he enjoys helps him to build relationships and keep on top of his emotions. His interests include:

- Arts and crafts, painting, sensory and messy play such as sticking paper with glue, water play, sand and play dough.
- Music so long as it's not too loud.
- Playing on his phone, tablet and laptop
- Playing Pokémon Go
- Playing outside with his dog, playing football, walking, exploring. Collecting textured sensory objects such as sticks, stones, bark and textured things.
- He loves Roblox and Minecraft and says that he is a master at these games.

Essential
- Experience of supporting someone with autism and/ or difficulties with emotional regulation
- Willing to learn from the young person and his family
- Be friendly and reliable
- Maintain confidentiality
- Be respectful in the family home
- Be creative in your personal approach
- Have a genuine desire to enhance the young person’s life and boost their self confidence in social situations
- A car driver

Desirable
- An understanding of the nature of this type of support work
- Things in common with the young person; you may share interests and hobbies which you can share
