As a key leader in the Clinical Coding department, you will be responsible for setting, implement and monitoring clinical coding policy, quality measures, and provision across the trust and will work closely with stakeholders to ensure high performance across a number of key coding metrics.

Leading a large, experienced and successful team of qualified coders, trainers and auditors, you will set targets for and develop the coding managers to high standards, overseeing the day-to-day running of the department.

During the 12 month fixed-term contract, you will also lead the department through the transition to a new EPR, EPIC, supporting the Head of Coded Data and Standards Assurance in development of new processes and protocols suitable for new ways of working.

Leadership and day-to-day operational management of the trust-wide clinical coding service.

Development and monitoring of effectives of the clinical coding function.

Leadership of a culture of high performance and effectiveness, supportiveness and inclusion.

Ensuring the department keeps pace with technological and clinical development and classification of new procedures and techniques are in-line with latest guidance.

High-level staff development and ensuring that audit and training programmes continually improve the quality of clinical coding and clinical coder ability.

Development and oversight of KPIs to monitor the effectiveness of the clinical coding function and support for a culture of continual improvement.

Ensure methodology and process for clinical coding across the Trust keeps pace with technological developments including changes in procedures, surgical techniques and patient treatments and their classification via participation in national/regional peer groups, seminars and workshops.

Monitor clinical coding position against external benchmarks using audit information and benchmarking tools.

Developing and implementing best practice systems such as audit and training programmes for clinical and coding staff.

Develop and maintain relationships with care group leaders, clinical teams and corporate teams, using these to increase the professional profile of clinical coding at all levels, internally and externally.

Responsible for ensuring appraisal, training and continuing develop of all staff in the department.

Deal with staff performance and disciplinary issues with the department according to Trust policy.

Promote a wide understand of data quality and its implications throughout the Trust.

Deputising for the Head of Coded Data and Standards Assurance where appropriate.

Act as a Trust expert in highly complex clinical coding discussions, ICD, OPCS and HRGs, communicating their importance to consultants and care group leads and commissioners who may have differing views.

Plan and organise your own work and that of the department, using your initiative to resolve operational problems wherever possible, taking advice from your manager if required.
