This position offers an exciting opportunity for an individual to join the NWAS strategic mental health team to develop and drive forward the ambulance response to non-fatal opiate overdoses in the North West and contribute to the reduction of drug related deaths across the region.

This role is a two-year fixed term contracted funded the North West Local Authorities. The postholder will work across the NWAS geographical footprint (Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Mersey, Lancashire and South Cumbria and North Cumbria) with external colleagues to develop a notification system for non-fatal opiate overdoses and onward referral pathways with partner agencies and develop and collate a non-fatal opiate overdose data set which will be shared with Local Authority drug and alcohol commissioners to assist in the planning and response to non-fatal opiate overdoses.

You will be working closely with different teams and roles in the organisation including front line clinicians and clinicians and staff working in our call centres and colleagues from our informatics and research team. In addition, you will also work with colleagues from the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities and local drug and alcohol commissioners/services

**The postholder will**:

- Maintain specialist knowledge with respect to non-fatal opiate overdoses and the national and local plans for reducing drug related deaths.
- Work with the strategic mental health team and external partners to develop the ambulance response to non-fatal opiate related overdoses.
- Be responsible for the planning, delivery, and monitoring of high-quality data relating to non-fatal opiate overdoses for use within NWAS and by external partners.
- Have responsibility for the development of a notification system for non fata opiate overdoses and appropriate onward referral pathways.
- Attend relevant internal and external meetings to represent the strategic mental health team and provide updates on ongoing workstreams.

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.

Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.
We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
