Due to developments within the Orthopaedic Service, we are advertising for a Physiotherapy Team Leader to manage the inpatient elective ward. The main focus of the post is to drive the service forwards and strengthen links with the MDT. This will include liaising with consultants and service managers, completion of audit/research to ensure quality and efficiency. Previous NHS experience working in elective orthopaedics and knowledge of patient pathways is essential.

You will be leading a team of static and rotational staff and students, working collaboratively with OT colleagues and the wider MDT. We are working towards generic competencies for our assistant workforce and potentially some qualified members of the team. Excellent communication skills are essential, as is experience of leading a team. Formal leadership training is desirable.

The ability to drive service development and implement initiatives alongside key targets for the Trust will form a large part of this role. This is a rapidly evolving service that requires a motivated, resilient, efficient and organised leader. Experience of project leadership is required.

We are moving towards a 7 day service and you will be expected to contribute to this as necessary. You may also be required to be a full participant in the respiratory on-call rota.

Ideally we are looking for this person to work three 5 hour days (Wed, Thurs, Fri), but may consider other working patterns which can be discussed at interview.

To act as an expert source of knowledge, offering specialist clinical advice and support to other healthcare professional and agencies across organisational boundaries.

To work autonomously to manage a defined highly complex patient caseload whilst working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

To contribute to the delivery of the service in a variety of defined clinical settings, which may include in-patient wards, out-patient and community clinics and the patient’s home.

You will be working alongside the Trauma Orthopaedic Team Leader to manage the whole orthopaedic physiotherapy team here at Leighton Hospital.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond. The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.

During the Coronavirus pandemic, the Trust was recognised nationally for its ‘Be Safe Be EquiPPEd’ campaign, which aimed to make the Trust as safe as possible for staff and patients, through supporting the correct use of PPE. The results in the 2020 national NHS Staff Survey showed improvements in all elements of the safety culture theme, with 92% of respondents feeling their role made a difference to our patients. We were also recognised nationally for our workforce health and wellbeing initiatives.

To manage a highly specialist case load, demonstrating appropriate time
management and organisation skills.
To ensure effective day to day organisation and provision of service, including the coordination of junior staff and assistants to meet service priorities.
To provide clinical leadership and support to junior staff and assistants, through case supervision, and the development and monitoring of competencies.
To undertake the appraisal of staff and assistants as appropriate.
To lead the recruitment of new junior and assistant staff, as delegated by the team leader, including the planning and delivery of the induction programme.
To actively contribute innovative ideas and lead on the development and
implementation of service improvements.
To contribute to the development and delivery of service objectives, leading on designated projects.
To represent the department and contribute to relevant working parties/meetings.
