**The Role**

Opportunity for an Additive Manufacturing Applications Engineer to join as a key member of the team and develop their skills within this growing area of technology. The Additive Manufacturing Applications Engineer will be working primarily with metal AdditiveManufacturing processes. This role will involve a substantial proportion of time spent working with metallic powder materials through the full Additive Manufacture cycle.

This is an agile and creative environment supporting both innovative R&D and existing production processes used in the region for manufacturing of products and solutions.

You will interface with industrial partners, collaborative research programmes via academic and industrial partnerships and any interested bodies or groups seeking to leverage the positive benefits of Additive Manufacturing.

You will explore and examine the limits and capabilities of Additive Manufacturing to create exciting innovative solutions to manufacturing challenges ranging from design efficiency to material usage, to technical challenges to experimental material selection.

Key responsibilities include conducting research and manufacturing activity for a range of collaborative programmes and projects used within the manufacturing arena for the Plymouth, Devon, and wider Southwest regions. You will use relevant supporting processesto achieve the full Additive Manufacturing cycle, including powder recycling, heat treatment, part removal, post processing and inspection.

The Applications Engineer will be responsible for the clean-down, setup and operation of specialist Additive Manufacturing systems. Conduct basic maintenance of key and associated equipment and will contribute to continuous improvement activities and tidinessof all work areas.

**The Person**

You will be a qualified Engineer possessing a Engineering or similar degree (or equivalent level qualification) with a keen interest in the value of industrial and academic collaboration for innovative research and development. Previous experience workingin a technical capacity, such as within an additive manufacturing or R&D environment is highly advantageous for the role in addition to the ability to work to fixed processes, whilst ensuring H&S best practice is always followed.

The Applications Engineer will possess the ability to interpret technical drawings, experience with 3D CAD software including the ability to design parts. You will have and enjoy the hands-on aspect of Additive Manufacturing working with hand tools and handfinishing techniques for processing of parts, post-production.

Experience in Additive Manufacturing or working with metal powders in addition to basic manual machining or the use of inspection equipment to provide visual inspection of parts in engineering or manufacturing is highly desirable for the role.

The Applications Engineer for Additive Manufacturing will possess excellent written and spoken communication skills both for preparation of technical reports and interaction with research partners and stakeholders. You will be adept at handling sets of dataand able to both interpret and present engineering data to a wide audience including both technical and operational partners.
