**Job summary**:
The Department for International Trade (DIT) is responsible for promoting British trade across the world. DIT secures UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment. We have offices in the UK and an overseas network across the world.

You will join a growing and vibrant analytical community bringing together analysts across social research, economics, operational research and statistics. Analytical teams underpin the department’s activities, providing critical research to shape its strategic development.

The Central Research Evaluation and Monitoring Team (CREM) is based in the Central Analysis Team which is led by DIT’s Head of Profession for Social Research and includes a mix of social researchers, economists, statisticians and operational researchers. We sit at the heart of DIT and work with various stakeholders across the department and beyond to identify evidence gaps and develop products and processes to address them. CREM has a vacancy for a Research Officer. The role provides support the development and delivery of the research governance function and hands on input to social research projects led by CREM.

**Job description**:
**Research Officer**
- Working as a part of a small team to provide quality assurance of proposals for externally commissioned across the Department, ensuring that they use appropriate methodologies, meet relevant professional standards and deliver value for money, reviewing individual proposals, providing constructive feedback and support to bid leaders in partnership with Commercial function colleagues.
- Supporting call-off contract renewal and tendering for our four major research framework contracts which is due to start in April 2023 including review of current delivery, specifying future needs, pre-market engagement and procurement process
- Identifying needs and commissioning training to support capability building among analysis commissioners and assisting in running the research working group to build collective expertise as a community of practice in research methods and project management.
- Provide research expertise and input to the strategic and cross-cutting social research team - this is a new team responsible for identify and filling critical evidence gaps and offers opportunities to contribute to projects delivered in-house and managed through external contractors.

We are a friendly team and offer plenty of opportunities to innovate and implement good ideas - in the past year we have revamped our analysis prioritisation processes and developed analytical impact training. We sit at the heart of the department with the chance to see the big picture and lots of interaction with many different analysis and policy teams.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London salary.

DIT will cover travel costs/expenses to any office which is not your usual office location in line with departmental expenses policy. DIT will not cover commuting costs to your agreed office location.
