**What will I be doing?**

You will be part of the Delivery and Analysis Team within Defra’s Portfolio Directorate. We function as an in-house consultancy team, with a mixture of high calibre strategy / policy advisors, data analysts and delivery experts. Our roles often involve working with Defra’s senior leaders or major programmes to help better understand delivery challenges or provide pragmatic solutions to challenging delivery problems. Our input is critical in delivering Defra’s challenging and important agenda and in enabling Defra’s top boards and senior leaders to make effective and timely decisions.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for you to work in a high-profile and stretching job at the heart of Defra where we work across organisational boundaries to drive better delivery. You will have regular exposure to senior leaders across Defra. You will deliver high-quality and fast-paced insights and problem-solving required to help address the department’s most significant delivery challenges. The department is also committed to radically enhancing the way data is used to influence key delivery decisions - an ambition where this team plays a central role.

As a senior delivery advisor you will engage with programmes and policy teams across Defra to identify delivery challenges and scope out useful interventions. You will work alongside our Secretary of State’s Delivery Unit to drive forward progress against SoS key delivery priorities. Some of the activities that this role will deliver include:

- Design a structured approach to addressing these challenges that engages relevant stakeholders and leverages analysis, standards and best practice
- Create compelling written products and presentations to deliver the insights required by senior stakeholders
- Provide high-quality briefings and communication in person to senior stakeholders
- Review and evaluate your and the team’s work and proactively develop improved methodologies and ways of working
- Play an active leadership role in the Delivery and Analysis Team, including helping with wider team-building activities
- Understand complex data, models and analytical products to build robust evidence for decision-making

This list isn’t exhaustive but provides an overview of the activities the role will carry out.

**Person specification**:

- A background in problem-solving, perhaps in a consultancy, a central government strategy team or delivery unit, in a high-performing policy team, or a cross-cutting team in a government department
- An unwavering commitment to high standards, outstanding relationship and client management, and clear, incisive thinking to bring to bear on a range of public policy projects
