**Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service **has a fantastic opportunity available for a **Communications Business Partner** to join our team in **Exeter** on a part-time (**22.2 hours per week**), Fixed Term Contract for up to 12 months**.* In return, you will receive a competitive salary of **£35745 - £38223 pro rata.*

**About the Communications Business Partner role**

We are looking for an experienced, creative communicator to join our Communications and Engagement service.

As a Communications Business Partner, you will support the day-to-day management of all our communications, planning clear, timely messages across a range of channels, for both internal and external audiences.

You will be helping to ensure residents have the information they need to protect themselves, communicating with our 1,900 staff, and providing communications support during incidents.

You will also have a portfolio of departments you work with to identify and prioritise communication and engagement needs, and to plan and deliver a range of effective campaigns.

You will need to have a good grasp of modern communication techniques and channels and be able to build good relationships and be comfortable with providing professional communications advice and influencing at all levels of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

**Key responsibilities as our Communications Business Partner will include**:

- supporting clients in service areas to define priorities
- developing targeted and creative communication campaigns, using audience insight and the latest best practice from the profession, while also developing and testing new ideas
- developing engaging content in various formats, including working with internal and external designers, to support our storytelling
- horizon scanning for upcoming communications priorities, opportunities, and risks, populating a forward plan of activity, and developing the annual communications plan
- prioritising all activity and facilitate self-service within service areas for low level non-priority work
- building and maintaining strong relationships with colleagues in service areas to learn and understand their business area
- supporting, advising, influencing, and challenging colleagues on communications best practice
- working with other members of the communications and engagement team to get the best out of all our activity.

**What we’re looking for in our Communications Business Partner**
- Ability to adapt styles and messages to suit specific target audiences.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality when handling sensitive information and data.
- Experience of evaluating communications activity and presenting findings to others within an organisation.
- Experience of working within a communications role.
- Experience of developing communications activity across a number of channels.
- Experience dealing with the media for both proactive and reactive communications.
- Knowledge of the wider communications discipline, including media relations and social media.
- An understanding of how the public sector works, the political nature of the organisation and how these relate to communications.
- Knowledge of the law with regards to communications, such as the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information act and media law.
- Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative evaluation measures.
