As a PSO, you’ll have a similar job to a fully qualified probation officer. The main difference is you’ll work with medium and lower risk clients. That’s not to say it’ll be easy. There’s no doubt this is a challenging role.

You will undertake immediate risk and needs assessments with prisoners who are entering prison and those preparing for release into the community. Probation Practitioners support people in prison with all aspects of resettlement, managing a caseload of prisoners, undertaking action plans, tracking agreed milestones and facilitating their access to support around employment, health/substance misuse, accommodation, education and finance benefit and debt. All of which is essential in them achieving successful changes to live positive lives free from offending on release.

In this role you will work closely colleagues across prison departments, as well as with Probation Practitioners and partners in the community to support the reintegration of people from prison back into the community.
