Overview:
**National Records of Scotland (NRS) is seeking someone who is highly experienced in the development, implementation and management of physical security controls.**

You will be joining an organisation tasked with the preservation of some of Scotland’s most significant national treasures. Our mission is to collect, preserve and produce information about Scotland's people and history and make it available to inform current and future generations.

You will be an experienced physical security professional able to liaise and communicate effectively with both internal and external resources, across a diverse estate at multiple locations. The Head of Physical Security services is accountable for providing day to day management to all security officers based at sites within their area of responsibility, customer relationship management and overall responsibility for service delivery. Managing compliance across several areas, including engagement with Scottish Government security service providers.

The Estates team manages 4 buildings in Edinburgh, three of which are iconic Category A listed buildings and sit in the heart of Edinburgh’s World Heritage site. We have responsibility for the national archives of Scotland, which equates to more than 80 kilometres and 800 years of Scotland's historical records. We hold records spanning the 12th to the 21st century, touching on virtually every aspect of Scottish life.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assist the Head of Facilities and Workplace Improvements (C1) to deliver and manage security systems and services across the estate, ensuring compliance with Scottish Government regulations and directives.
- Provide guidance and recommendations to influence changes to policies, processes, standards and practices.
- Manage physical security arrangements including electronic access control systems, building access & perimeters and staff identity cards.
- Liaise with SG Security over security clearance procedures for staff, contractors and official visitors.
- Understand complex situations, creatively supporting the business to identify risk exposure and how to mitigate and protect the business, react to ad hoc requests for security support for projects, activities or events.
- Strategically manage performance of the security contract to ensure it meets evolving requirements. Ensure a cost-effective approach to security provision, contributing and implementing changes in accordance with agreed procedures and provide monthly financial reports on delegated budgets and service delivery.
- Manage a team of contract security officers.
- Liaise with Scottish Government security departments as necessary for day to day and out of hours security provision as necessary.

**Essential Criteria**

1. Ability to lead and work with external service providers and stakeholders to investigate issues, commission reports or specifications, plan works etc.

3. Extensive experience of contract management, ensuring quality, value for money and compliance, with a proven ability to analyse, problem solve, prioritise and present complex data and information clearly and concisely.

4. A sound knowledge of Security Strategies and in-depth knowledge of Industry Standards.
