We are seeking a patient, caring Support Worker/Buddy for Sean, who was born in 1961. Sean suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2012 and as a result he has no active movement in his arms, legs, and trunk. He is dependent on an attendant propelled wheelchair as he is unable to sit up independently. He resides in a Care Home, has access to communal lounges and grounds and has no family locally. Sean is fed via a gastronomy tube, has epilepsy, right side visual difficulties and suffers with fatigue, he requires repositioning every 4 hours.
- Although there is very limited information about Sean prior to his injury, the care staff have noticed he is more attentive and awake during certain activities like listening to music, watching Western films, and engaging with animals. He prefers to spend more time in the communal rooms, as this is where activities take place.
Your role as Support Worker/Buddy will be to arrange and support Sean to participate in meaningful activities, out in the community and within the care home. Due to his brain injury, Sean does not communicate verbally, so you will need to be able to interpret his non verbal communication and respond accordingly. He is 2:1 for personal care and hoist transfers, so the Support Worker/Buddy would be expected to support and assist the Care Staff when within the Care Home.
This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated person to work within the care home setting and community to provide 1:1 support to our client. A truly rewarding role for someone who is able to communicate effectively and an ability to work with patience, tact, understanding, warmth and compassion.
**Pay and Benefits**:
- £14.50 per hour, Monday to Friday, £16.00 per hour, Weekends and Bank Holidays
- 5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata
- Free DBS check.
**In order to promote continuity of our high care standards, you will be offered**:
- Induction,
- Relevant training opportunities (including The Care Certificate),
- Regular clinical supervision/review meetings,
- On-going support from a dedicated Case Manager and HR Department
**Safeguarding**
ILS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our Clients within the activities we undertake, and ILS expects all our Clients’ employees and workers to share this commitment. The suitability of all prospective employees or workers will be assessed during the recruitment process in line with this commitment. This position will require:
- Proof of eligibility to work in the UK;
- Satisfactory references, including your last employer;
- An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Certificate. A conviction will not necessarily prevent you from being employed.
- About You
- Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
- Experience with working with Traumatic Brain Injury.
- Confident and comfortable working in the Care Home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of Sean and the Care Staff.
- Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting Sean's needs.
- Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner.
- A team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team.
- Can develop productive and professional relationships with others.
