East London, United Kingdom Sense Full time

**Could you make a difference for a disabled young person?**

Become a Buddy with Sense to help a young person build their skills, confidence and friendships.

Over half of disabled young people in the UK feel lonely. Help us change that by signing up to be a Buddy today

We’re looking for kind and enthusiastic volunteers who can support young people in East London. We’ll match you with someone with similar interests, and you can choose how you’d like to spend your time together - whether that’s art exhibitions, gigs or laser quest.

You don’t need any previous experience to become a Buddy with Sense. We’ll give you full training and support. Buddying is a great way to develop your skills, grow as a person and make like-minded new friends.

Here’s what Milton had to say about his experience as a Buddy: “I’ve learnt a lot through Buddying - from caring for my Buddy, to solving problems quickly. Volunteering with Sense is one of the best decisions made in my life, and I’ve met other great volunteers with the same passion”

Being a Sense Buddy typically takes three to four hours per week for at least six months. Our roles are flexible, so we’ll work with you to set up a schedule.
**Is Buddying right for you?**
We’re looking for volunteers who:

- Live in, or can regularly travel to, Hackney, Redbridge, Newham or Tower Hamlets.
- Can commit to volunteering with Sense for at least six months.
- Understand the importance of giving people choice and dignity.
- Are reliable, patient, friendly and good at communicating.
- Respect differences in culture and background.
- Have a sense of adventure

What you can expect from us
- Full training and ongoing support, including opportunities for further training.
- Reimbursed expenses, so you’re never out of pocket.
- The chance to make new friends for life.
- A reference at the end of your time with us.
- Loads of fun

**Job Type**: Volunteer

**Salary**: Up to £0.01 per year

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Weekend availability

Ability to commute/relocate:

- London East, Greater London: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
