This is an exciting role in a growing area of Eden’s activities, supporting the health of the communities around us. The role is a funded programme, initially to September 2024, there will be a standard programme review with the funders 6 months into the programme to check progress and any changes that may be needed. This also aligns to Eden’s 6-month probationary period. Providing all areas are confirmed as positive, the programme will continue to a minimum point of September 2024.

Over the last 15 years the Eden Project has been running programmes that create a strong connection between being in nature and increased happiness and feelings of connectivity.

This new role represents an exciting opportunity redefine the delivery of nature-based activities that support the health and wellbeing of the nation. The role will be responsible for delivery of a new nature-based programme supporting individuals physical and mental health, but with an emphasis on mental health.

The post holder will be expected to support the development of pilot projects that aim to grow nature-based healing activities, starting with three first generation schemes linked to horticultural therapy, nature-based walks, conservation, art & music. Project delivery will take place on the Eden site and two other locations in the UK.

Role Purpose
This new role represents an exciting opportunity redefine the delivery of nature-based activities that support the health and wellbeing of the nation. We are in a planetary and human health crisis. Only by deepening our collective understanding of the interconnection between all living things can we protect the planet and support social equity. The research is clear, green and blue space can be a fundamentally important tool to help support our health and wellbeing.
This role will be responsible for delivery of a new nature-based programme supporting individuals physical and mental health, but with an emphasis on mental health. Underpinned by sound academic research, the programme will develop a set of principles and an operating manual that will be used to support delivery in a variety of places; an approach which is recognised nationally, but rooted in local activities. It will be aimed at introducing patients with poor mental and physical health to nature-based healing.
The post holder will be expected to support the development of new pilot projects that aim to grow nature-based healing activities. That work will include the up-front prospecting, relationship building, project design, funding, project delivery and compliance across a broad range of activities.
Starting with three first generation schemes linked to horticultural therapy, nature-based walks, conservation, art & music, the post holder will establish the programme structure and local delivery models that can inform a national-wide scaleup. This will be underpinned by a research framework that can influence health and environment policy both in the UK and beyond.
Working at the Eden Project, and supported by an Advisory Group, the programme is embarking on a two-year pilot phase with the postholder having the opportunity to implement a long-term strategy for the programme across the UK.

Key Accountabilities
1. To be the strategic lead and manage the Nature Base Healing Project - including the set-up and future delivery of the project, delivered on-time and on-budget, offering tangible benefit to all those who participate on the programme.

2. To manage external relationships within the public policy arena and political arena linked to nature-based healing. Including ensuring the Project’s voice and ideas are appropriately promoted at a political level and supporting the relationship between Eden and key local partnerships.

3. To be the primary contact for any new development ideas. Specifically, the post holder will lead the concept development/fundraising process and ensure, where possible, those projects progress from ideas into “oven ready” projects that aim to expand the depth and breadth of the Nature Based Healing activity.

4. To create the key principles that underpin the quality of the Nature-Based Healing programmes and ensure they continue to be adhered to.

5. Provide effective leadership to the Advisory Board and external supporters. To lead and line manage the 1st Generation Projects, relationships with key donors, and the European Centre for Environment and Human Health.

6. Create key relationship with local service providers and the NHS to establish effective referral and progression routes are identified for each individual that engages with the programme.
