The post holder will provide a professional and wide-ranging pastoral support service to students whose personal problems or issues risk their academic progress or continued studies. Working in partnership with departmental Learning and Teaching teams and academic staff in key student facing roles, to proactively monitor and identify students who may need additional support.

The role involves relevant elements of organisation and management of administrative processes relating to the student experience, providing support to students and staff and working closely with other members of the Registry team. The post holder will be expected to provide accurate advice to staff and students and will require the development of a good working knowledge of Hull College regulations and procedures to fulfil the duties of the role.

**Responsibilities of our** **HE Student Success Coach**:
- Provide support and guidance to both undergraduate and postgraduate students requiring non-academic advice, including drop-ins, regular support meetings and follow-up as required
- Collate and make an initial assessment of concessionary evidence to ensure that the relevant committees and boards are able to make informed and evidence-based decisions in relation to mitigating actions.
- Make referrals to, and communicate with, other College departments that offer support services to students so that students with difficulties receive a seamless support experience
- Maintain and update the record of interactions, ensuring sensitive data is handled in accordance with college guidelines and GDPR
- Co-ordinate and deliver induction events during orientation week and other student support events and activities, including preparation and delivery of material to students, giving presentations and liaising with other service teams as appropriate.
- To provide a point of contact for current learners with mental health difficulties. Proactively supporting these learners through the full student cycle; liaising with internal departments to provide a range of coordinated support across the student experience and signpost to external agency where appropriate.
- To create and maintain relationships with external support providers; liaising on learners’ behalf where required.
- To create and facilitate group wellbeing workshops for students, liaising with student representative bodies to facilitate engagement and promotion.
- To report regularly as per committee cycles on provision and impact of activity.
- To be ever mindful that exchanges with students can be upsetting, either because of the nature of the problem the student faces, or because issues can feel sensitive and/or confrontational. Knowing when or if signposting or referral to a more specialist service is needed.
**What we’re looking for in our** **HE Student Success Coach**:
- GCSE English & Maths Grade C or equivalent
- Educated to A level standard or equivalent
- Excellent IT skills particularly MS Office packages and the ability to learn systems quickly
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to deal confidently and diplomatically with a range of people at all levels, modifying your approach when necessary.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to show empathy with students who face difficulties, whatever their background or circumstances
