We are looking to appoint a lead for Midwifery to join the SE GMSA to undertake operational leadership to support the implementation of national and local transformation projects ensuring the mainstreaming of genomics in nursing activity. Supported by the Director of Nursing/Midwifery, the roles will be part of the clinical leadership team working together to ensure delivery of the programme.
- Producing a stakeholder map to identify the relevant networks for nurses and midwives across the region, develop and implement an appropriate strategy to engage them with the GMSA and wider national nursing programme.
- Carrying out a baseline review of current awareness and input from nurses/midwives to genomics and related pathways and identify best practice to be shared or gaps where nursing/midwifery input regarding diagnosis/care would be beneficial.
- Lead & develop in collaboration with other leads events that will increase awareness of genomics medicine, including but not limited to learning forums, awareness days, network events
- Providing clinical leadership for midwifery across all other NHSE funded transformation projects to ensure that learning is embedded into clinical practice across primary and secondary care where relevant and to ensure key performance indicators are achieved

NHS South East Genomic Medicine Service Alliance

The NHS has established seven Genomic Medicine Services Alliances (GMS Alliances) to provide equitable and consistent access to genomic services across England. The NHS GMS Alliances bring together providers to work in partnership across geographies aligned to the NHS Genomic Laboratory Hub (GLH) footprints to provide consistency with genomic testing pathways.

The NHS GMS Alliances will support the systematic implementation of genomic medicine into the NHS and the delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan ambitions by creating a learning environment to support the rapid adoption and spread of scientific advances
- Working closely with the Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Education &Training and Workforce Development Lead and Genetic Counselling Lead, develop a strategy for workforce development and delivery of genomics education and training opportunities for the nursing / midwifery workforce across the geography. This will include working with Higher Education Institutions to support embedding of Genomics principles within the undergraduate curriculum.
- Working closely with the Director of Nursing and Midwifery and Communications Lead to develop an engagement strategy for the nursing workforce across the geography
- Identifying high impact, in terms of benefits to patients, future projects that focus on implementing genomics in nursing and midwifery clinical practice; taking into consideration upskilling of the current workforce, new roles and new ways of working
- Identifying and mobilising other nurses / midwives or genomics champions across the region who can help with project(s) delivery
