A Nursery Assistant, or Nursery Aide works in a childcare facility to create a safe, educational, and fun environment for young children. Their duties include helping develop a positive curriculum, ensuring safety in the facility and interacting with young children.
**About Muddy Boots**
Our first, and most unique setting is located on a working Dairy Farm. With endless gardens and access to outdoor adventures all day. It promotes a very natural atmosphere with plenty of engaging resources and open-ended opportunities to play and learn.
**Apprenticeship Summary**
- Monday - Friday
- Term time hours TBC
- Starting salary - £5.28 per hour / £21,840 - £22,692.80 Annually
- GCSE or equivalent Maths and English (Grade 4/C and above or Level 2) essential
- Any successful applicant must complete a DBS check prior to start date
**What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?**
There are quite a few routes people can take towards becoming a Nursery Assistant. Muddy Boots prefer applicants to have taken a college course and gained a Level 2 certificate in childcare. However, many people will complete an intermediate or advanced apprenticeship as an early years practitioner or educator with the company and if needed this will commence on completion of your probationary period. (19 months to complete)
Nursery assistants must also have certificates in paediatric first aid, safeguarding, food hygiene, prevent duty, FGM and witchcraft. If these certificates are not already held, training will be provided within two weeks of an assistants start date and maintained in accordance with statutory guidelines.
**Job role and responsibilities**
- Feeding and changing babies and young children
- Facilitating exceptional opportunities, that are both fun and educational, with the support of the other practitioners and room leaders.
- Maintaining health, safety, and hygiene standards across the setting. This includes the completion of daily and activity specific risk assessments as well as cleaning duties.
- Keeping a record of the child’s progress to share with parents and other carers. This will be in the form of daily notes, observations, snap shots, and reports.
- Building and maintaining relationships with parents and other carers to facilitate the daily learning and care of the children.
- Creating an environment that meets the needs of the children by considering their developmental, cultural, and medical needs.
- Advising the room leader of concerns relating to a child, staff member or parent while respecting confidentiality requirements
- Adhering to the nurseries policies and procedures, as well as legislation requirements relating to childcare
**General Duties**
- A nursery assistant works in an Early Years setting, providing care to young children, usually up to five years old.
- They work under the supervision of more experienced Nursery Workers to create a safe and supportive setting for children to develop their social and educational skills.
- Much of their job involves working directly with children in group activities such as completing craft projects, storytelling, singing, and cooking.
**Professional standards & Attributes**:
All Nursery Assistants should be working towards a relevant qualification and be comfortable working with young children. Active listening skills, creativity and genuine enjoyment of children are all beneficial for this position. A successful Nursery Assistant will also have various prerequisite skills and qualifications which typically include:
