An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our large and friendly dietetic team at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust for a full time rotational Band 3 Dietetic Assistant post.

This is an exciting opportunity to provide a key role in supporting the work of both the Acute and General Medical team and GI Surgical team dietitians based at St Thomas’ Hospital on a 12 month rotation between the two different teams.

This varied role will involve reviewing a small caseload of stable nutrition support patients (supervised by a dietitian), delivering our online group weight management programme 'Healthy Choices', triaging outpatient referrals and contacting patients who have recently been discharged from hospital, contributing to team projects including audit work and conducting key department administration tasks. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are required. Proficiency at using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint are desirable.

The post holder will be joining a Nutrition & Dietetics Department of over 100 dietitians/staff working across Guy's, St Thomas,’ the Evelina Children's Hospital and Lambeth/Southwark community services. The department has a strong commitment to research and teaching.
- Clinical responsibilities

**Will include some of the following**:
**Newly admitted in-patients**:

- Liaising with the ward team to identify new admissions
- Ensuring a nutritional screening tool has been completed
- Ensuring a food record chart has been completed as appropriate
- Ascertaining whether the patient has a need for a modified diet
- Prioritising the patients for the dietitian to see

Follow-up patients
- Regularly review the patient’s nutritional screening tool
- To record patient’s weight, appetite and other relevant details as requested by the supervising dietitian
- To liaise with the ward house keeper/food service assistant to ensure patients have appropriate menu choices, including culturally-appropriate or therapeutic meals
- Help with the completion of menus if required
- Organise and review nutritional supplements and snacks
- Collect and analyse food record charts

Liaison with representatives from nutritional companies with regard to booking meetings, keeping product information files updated and arranging for pump training for named patients

To support the dietitian with discharge planning of patients going home on artificial nutritional support.

To support the dietitians in using manual anthropometry to measure body composition. This may be carried out unsupervised after further training.

Run/support dietitians with group education sessions for patients requiring a lipid lowering or weight reducing diet

Telephone call to patients at home following discharge from hospital to review their nutritional status and dietary intake
