**Purpose of the role**:
The Head of Finance is responsible for delivering York Citizens' Theatre Trust's (YCTT's) financial management at both a strategic and operational level, ensuring financial systems are appropriate for the efficient and effective operation of the York Theatre Royal. They will provide sound financial information and advice to support the financial stability of the organisation.

The Head of Finance will deliver the finance functions to ensure the timely and accurate production of financial and business information for partners and key stakeholders.

The Head of Finance will support the Finance Director on business compliance in the following areas:

- Finance
- Internal Control
- Risk management
- Statutory reporting

The Head of Finance will support the Finance Director to service the Finance & Capital Committee, Audit Sub Committee, Personnel and Governance Committee, Enterprises Board and co-ordinate all reporting to Full Board.

The role also has line management responsibility for the finance team, including providing training, support and ensuring the department works as effectively as possible.

**Main Responsibilities**:
**Strategic**

To support the preparation of annual and longer term financial plans, both revenue and capital, ensuring they underpin the YCTT's 5 and 10-year Business Plans

To support the Chief Executive and Finance Director to actively seek out both savings and revenue streams to ensure the organisation is operating as efficiently as possible

**People**

To lead and develop skills in the Finance team to build their professional knowledge, and deliver excellence in relation to timely and accurate information and outputs

**Governance**

To support the relationship between Enterprises, Finance & Capital and Audit Committees and the external auditors

To ensure compliance with the law and company's policies in relation to all financial and business administration matters

**Financial and Operational**

To support, and in the absence of the Finance Director lead, the financial operations of the organisation

From a financial perspective, to support the implementation of a new Box Office/CRM systems and a new bar/caf till system, as required

To oversee and support the Payroll function of the organisation and ensure timely competition of all statutory and operational requirements therein

To ensure effective internal controls are in place and compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory legislation for financial and tax reporting

To provide strategic recommendations to enhance financial performance and new business opportunities

To effectively manage the organisation's cash flow and reserves and work with the Board of Governors on the development of appropriate investments policies

To ensure that the Theatre is compliant with all laws and statutes relating to finance, taxation and business administration

**Job Requirements**

**Essential**

Professional experience of charity accounting and SORP

Thorough knowledge of financial systems, procedures and controls and the ability to implement these in a busy and complex environment

Strong analytical skills and deep understanding of Excel

Strong working knowledge of Sage50 and Sage Payroll

Knowledge of taxation issues particularly VAT, PAYE and Gift Aid

Experience of management accounting, cash flow forecasting and year-end statutory accounts

Experience of managing external financial audits

A great team player, with experience of line managing finance team members

Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail whilst working under pressure and to strict deadlines

Interest and knowledge in theatre and performing arts or a willingness to learn more

**Desirable**

Experience of theatre accounting and/or financial management

Experience of managing VAT Cultural Exception and Theatre Tax Relief claims

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 9 months

**Salary**: £38,000.00 per year
