**About the Service / Department**
The Camden Crisis Sanctuary is a safe place for people in mental health crisis and distress to attend for support. We aim to support people experiencing crisis or likely to experience a crisis. Our service users are supported through 1:1 key-working sessions with Recovery Workers and Peer Support Workers. As a non-clinical crisis service, the aim of our support is crisis prevention and management, emotional support, signposting and empowering our service users to create lasting links with their community.
**About the role**
- To provide support to service users using Hestia's Crisis Sanctuary to reduce their crisis by offering a range of activities and interventions within the service during opening times (16:30-23:30 every day, including weekends and bank holidays)
- To motivate service users to identify causes of crises and to prevent these issues triggering a mental health crisis in the future.
- To develop simple yet effective safety plans with the individual users to proactively manage their mental health and wellbeing and to avoid the use of crisis services such as A&E.
- To carry out individual one to one sessions with service users and, where appropriate, to support them to develop their own wellness, recovery action plan.
- To assist customers to develop their social networks in order to attend mainstream or specialist educational, leisure and health related activities to support positive mental health and wellbeing in the future.
- To have knowledge of and follow relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
- To liaise effectively with statutory providers and other voluntary sector agencies involved in the support and / or treatment of Service Users.
- To actively participate in continued professional development to be able to support customers with a range of mental health issues and associated impacts including thoughts of self-harm, drug and alcohol use and behaviour which may be experienced as challenging.
- To take an active role in supervision, reflective practice, appraisals, team meetings and other support mechanisms with the Team Manager outside of the operational hours of the service, in order to maintain resilience to be effective in this challenging yet highly rewarding environment.
- To work closely with the Team Manager, Service Manager and colleagues to provide a whole team approach to Service Users using the service.
- To promote and publicise the service appropriately in line with the service Communication Plan with support from the Team Manager.
- To co-produce the delivery of the service with current and former Service Users and to support them to engage in relevant forums or other local user groups, as appropriate.
- To take part in effective consultation with individual service users and groups of service users, both about local delivery and about organisational policy and procedures.
- Accurately record of customer visits, support and interventions provided and any outcomes.
- To maintain all other records relating to the upkeep and maintenance of the service, including building health and safety checks. This includes electronic based records.
- To liaise with other providers of support and/ or treatment to the service users, in line with Information Governance Protocols, to provide multi-agency support.
**About you**
- Demonstrable experience of working with individuals who have experienced mental health and / or dual diagnosis issues.
- Knowledge of issues affecting those individuals with a range of mental health conditions including crisis management, how to communicate effectively with these individuals and how to support them with dignity and respect.
- Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation i.e., Care Program Approach (CPA) processes.
- Understanding of the principles of recovery as an ethos and a range of recovery approaches.
- Ability to work as part of a team, on own initiative and to oversee induction of new peer staff and volunteers.
- Ability to work with statutory services i.e., NHS at the front line.
- Working with Peer Support Workers and Recovery Worker as an integral part of the team.
- Awareness of health and safety issues.
- Ability to work at evenings, weekends, and bank holidays - Service opening times are: 16:30 - 23:00 Monday - Sunday including bank holidays.
- Good IT skills that include a working knowledge of functions in MS Word, Outlook, and the internet.
- Ability to complete and record basic financial transactions, i.e., managing petty cash.
- Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately
