Our energy landscape is going through a time of profound change. A challenge touching every part of our society, we need to eradicate carbon emissions to halt the effects of climate change. We need to change how we live our lives and replace the use of fossil fuels for transport and heat.

Electricity will be at the heart of the solution, through electric vehicles and heat pumps. And with more renewables generation and other technologies connected to the electricity grid than ever before, it’s our role to make sure we create a more efficient, cleaner, greener network to accommodate this increase in demand.

Within SP Energy Networks, we are focusing on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. With distribution networks designed for predictable, stable demand, it’s vital we upgrade our network to create the flexibility required to cope with the extensive changes to electricity demand, generation, and consumer behaviour. Through technology and innovation, we will enable a consumer-led revolution in the use and operation of our system.

Our Land and Planning Team is a specialist function that plays a crucial role in the delivery of high value capital projects. Whether it’s connections to domestic premises, EV charging or renewables generation, our role in obtaining the land agreements is vital to allow us to install or upgrade our assets. As we work towards Net Zero, we’re working hard to upgrade our ageing network to deliver smarter and cleaner technology for our customers, communities, and stakeholders, and without these consents it won’t be possible. Without **YOU,** it won’t be possible

**What you’ll be doing**

Our portfolio of projects will provide you with the ideal platform from which to launch your Land & Planning Career. The new £62 million 400kV substation at Branxton, East Lothian is just one of many dynamic projects on our grid. This project will enable connection of 2,300MW of offshore wind power and the East Coast subsea cable link to our network. On another project we are investing £18m to support and enable growth in North Shropshire, with a new 132kV substation and overhead line Investment in North Shropshire Electricity Network - SP Energy Networks (opens in a new window).

With over 4,300km of circuits and 156 transmission substations in our licenced areas, we’re investing significantly in modernisation and reinforcement programmes to protect supply for our customers, communities, and stakeholders. This is a fantastic opportunity to start a career within the Land and Planning remit, gaining practical on the job experience, while putting your studies to use, and being fully supported and mentored by our team. And let’s not forget, you’ll be making a real-world contribution in the fight against climate change.
