Classification Specialist

Role Overview:
Huntsman Corporation’s Legal and International Trade Compliance team is searching for an experienced Classification Specialist on a home-based contract in the UK. The regional Legal team is Huntsman’s central support for EMEA, working in collaboration with our associates in APAC and US to form our global Legal function.

Role Responsibilities:
As a Classification Specialist, you will be responsible for:

- Being the main liaison and close partner on classification matters; having in-depth knowledge of ITC laws, regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to the business
- Developing and maintaining expertise in operating principles and processes for Harmonized Tariff Classification, Wassenaar Arrangement Export Control Classification and PIC Regulation Classification, Explosives, EU/CH/UK Drug Precursors (assignment of CAS). You will become a company expert and act as a point of contact to advise stakeholders accordingly.
- Ensuring that changes and updates to legislation/rules/classifications are closely monitored and applied to systems, gaining working knowledge of national and international trade regulations and communicating with the wider business.
- Supporting Sample Process for Customs Classification, Legal Control Classification and Technology.
- Providing support for operation and maintenance of software systems (databases) containing commodity codes, OGA and Y codes as well as information/documents related to import/export documentation in systems.
- Supporting the ITC management team (development and implementation of corporate ITC team strategy; design and promotion of the global trade compliance management program; management of ITC issues).
- Responding to customer requests, provides required documents (Export Control Classification Sheet) and responds to customs agent requests.

Experience and Competencies:
What we are looking for:

- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Chemistry, ideally with 5 years of experience in the chemical industry, including an international trade compliance function.
- Knowledge of ITC laws, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Strong understanding in customs classification and regulations, including new changes to legislation and processes for new products.
- Excellent English, with a knowledge of other European languages beneficial.
- Strong communication skills to interact with people at different locations and of different levels in the organization.
- Willingness for occasional travel throughout Europe
- Knowledge of MS office and SAP/GTS preferred, with additional consideration for - S/4 Hana skills.
