- Job description- We have an exciting opportunity within Solent & South Downs Area to make a real impact on reducing our carbon footprint by leading on overseeing, monitoring, and optimising our roadmap to carbon net zero.
We're looking for a motivated and skilled individual to fill the Carbon Reduction Programme Advisor role. As part of the Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Programme team you will work across a variety of FCRM teams and the wider business. You’ll manage relationships across the Area and directly engage with National leads to effectively realise carbon reduction opportunities, such as prioritising projects, determining where investment is best placed, identifying best practice and influencing the Area contribution to adapting to climate change.
Understanding project impacts in terms of CO2 emissions is an important part of the role and you'll be adept at quantifying flood risk management project carbon footprints, identifying allowance exceedance and seeking resolutions. You'll need a wide range of experience to inform project teams of best practice, emerging technologies and disseminating industry initiatives. You’ll seek best programme outcomes, such as low carbon solutions, efficiencies, and carbon offsetting which will lead to environmental habitat enhancements. This is an excellent opportunity to join a team that is reducing flood risk for our customers whilst also enhancing our local environment.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- This role will form a core part of the Area Programming Team, working collaboratively with colleagues including Area Project Managers, Programme and Contract Management, Asset Performance, and National Carbon Reduction team.
The role will help develop, manage and deliver FCRM programmes of work whilst minimising our carbon footprint and moving towards Net Zero. The role will also form part of a national community, working with colleagues across the directorate to promote a 'one business' approach.
- Experience/skills required- You will need to be able to demonstrate the following:

- Excellent organisational and inter-personal skills
- Experience of managing cost, budgets and forecasts and reporting this in an accurate and timely manner
- You can communicate and present convincing verbal and written advice and have a practical approach to problem solving
- The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across different parts of the business both internally and externally
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills including Excel and Power BI
- Knowledge of managing and reporting carbon along with an understanding of carbon valuation, metrics and benchmarking are desirable
