- Comprehensive market surveillance and sampling programmes across the full range of Trading Standards disciplines, including animal health and welfare, feed, food, metrology and product safety.
- Our innovative intelligence-led approach to tackle the most detrimental traders and trade sectors - achieving over 96% success in bringing traders into compliance.
- Well resourced and successful investigations, supported by our in-house prosecution and intelligence functions. Recent successful prosecutions cover animal health and welfare, illegal tobacco, unroadworthy cars and rogue builders.
- A far-reaching community protection programme, including our Norfolk Against Scams Partnership, “Trusted Trader” trader assurance scheme and No Cold Calling Zones.

But we’re not resting on our laurels, we’re always looking forward, and as a result we’re looking for experienced Trading Standards Officers to join us.

As a Lead/Trading Standards Officer within the team, your role will be varied, challenging, and (we hope) fulfilling. Norfolk is a unique county, with a blend of urban and rural locations, and a diverse range of businesses and industries. You’d have a talented and experienced team around you, plus a structured career path and an excellent learning and development programme.

We currently have 11 trainees, 10 of whom will be embarking on year 2 of the new Level 6 Trading Standards Professional apprenticeship in the 23/24. They are studious and enthusiastic, and we are looking for officers who are keen to share their experience and expertise to support them during their qualification journey and beyond.

Our main offices are at County Hall in Norwich and Priory House in King’s Lynn and you would have the option of being based, under our hybrid working model, at either site.

To be considered for the role you’ll need to hold a professional Trading Standards qualification (Trading Standards Practitioner Certificate/Diploma or equivalent antecedents). In addition, you’ll need first class organisation and communication skills, and the ability to engage with people from all walks of life, and to drive positive outcomes. You’ll need perseverance, patience, attention to detail and the ability to think on your feet and use your judgement. And you’ll have a positive and proactive approach, and a willingness both to learn new things and to help others.
