International Trade Advisor

The Growth Company’s (GC) International trade team has an exciting opportunity for three International Trade Advisors who will engage with, encourage and mentor NW companies to realise their international growth potential.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Deliver advisory services aimed at both new and experienced exporting companies, as agreed within the Growth Company (GC)/DIT strategic plan, to maximise their international success and contribute to economic growth in the Northwest (NW)
- Use specific skills and adviser experience to undertake in-depth diagnostics, mentor and intensively work with a portfolio of Account Managed NW companies to facilitate a strategic approach to exporting, which in turn aids growth, improves competitivenessand significantly increases sales and profits via International Trade Activity
- Identify and highlight new business opportunities from key stakeholders and network of contacts to Account Managed companies, to increase their international competitiveness and market portfolio
- Ensure all international trade clients are engaging in the wider range of services of GC/DIT and contracted partners to enable them to increase sales and profits through business development
- Establish and maintain working relationships with colleagues across GC to promote the benefits of international trade and contribute to service development
- Communicate and strengthen the marketing of International Trade services both within GC and the wider Northwest & NPH business environment, including presenting at events with partner organisations, regionally, nationally and internationally
- Promote the role of GC as the go-to service for anyone wanting support to develop their exporting business in the NW
- Engage in individual ongoing development and training to ensure excellent performance and delivery of a high-quality service to client companies
- Utilise adviser skills and experience to ensure communication and delivery of DIT programmes meet the needs of SMEs new to exporting, and those expanding their export activity in new or existing markets
- Plan, prepare, compile, and submit proposals to the Head of Global Programmes for the delivery of outward and inward trade missions/ exhibitions or events for one-to-many engagement, and manage these projects to completion
- Represent the organisation at local, regional and national meetings and events with sector groups and strategic partners
**About You**
- Degree/Diploma level - business or languages related and/or international trade qualification
- Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the mechanics of international trade and the impact on this for businesses when there are changes to global policies, exporting processes and global trade issues
- Knowledge of developing new business opportunities and strategic marketing plans
- Sound awareness of UK business issues, which impact on international growth
- Ability to speak a second language and/or experience of living or working abroad is an advantage
- Self-motivated with ability to achieve objectives whilst adapting to changing business needs
- Engaging and able to build rapport with any size of business, working collaboratively with representatives in each client company incl. at Board level
**Skills Required**:
- Excellent IT, communication and presentation skills.
- Commercial/business-like approach with the ability to build relationships and positively influence at all business levels
- Able to carry out an in-depth assessment of a company’s readiness to trade internationally and conduct market research to support strategic development of their international trade activity
- Project management capability
- Car owner/driver with full license - must be insured for business use
- Proven practical private sector/ commercial and/or international trade advisory experience in providing support to help companies export from the UK and achieve their international growth objectives, preferably in a senior role
- Track record of developing a network of business contacts to support international trade development in a business
- Experience of delivering business support services or consultancy in a grant-funded environment is desirable
