**Job summary**:
As Area Coordinator for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, you will become an expert on economic growth in your local area and utilise in-depth knowledge of its politics, economy, challenges and opportunities. You will hold productive working level relationships with local authority economic development officers, HE/FE and other institutions, local government associations, local business organisations and others. You will support the team in delivering the next stages of implementing a devolution deal for the area (establishing the East Midlands Mayoral County Combined Authority).

You will use your detailed local Knowledge to lead on high-quality briefing material tailored for the audience (usually Ministers and Senior Civil Servants) and arranging and supporting ministerial and other visits. You will report on your local economy, developing a strong comprehension of economic trends and their impact on the area, and work with your team to produce analysis and recommendations for action. Working flexibly alongside other team members and depending on the needs of the team, you role may focus on either of the county areas.

With about 5 million people, the East Midlands is at the heart of the country, covering Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Rutland - technically it covers Northamptonshire but we work with them from another part of the Unit As well as being home to much of the Peak National Park and National Forest, we have sector specialisms, including advanced manufacturing, anchored by Derby's world-class advanced manufacturers including Rolls-Royce, Toyota and Alstom; life sciences centres in Nottingham and Loughborough; space, including Leicester’s world-leading space cluster and agrifood in Lincolnshire. We are well-connected and had the second highest growth rate of any region between 2001-2020, but face challenges around skills, social mobility and areas of long-standing deprivation. The team works with a breadth of people and organisations to drive growth, improve lives and devolve power to the local level, as well as regenerate towns and high streets, and support policies ranging from freeports to business support to innovation. We also make sure voices from across our region are heard when decisions are taken by Government.

**Job description**:

- You will:
- Support Government’s relationships on local growth in your local area, including devolution, collaborating on economic development plans and supporting local authorities, universities, business groups and others in their interactions with central Government.
- Lead on, arranging, and providing briefing for ministerial and senior official visits to the area.
- Lead on drafting and regularly updating a range of place-focussed core briefing products for the D2N2 area.
- Support your team to work with local partners to deliver funds including the £4.8bn Levelling Up Fund, UK Community Renewal Fund, UK Community Ownership Fund and Freeports.
- Build and maintain a day to day relationship with local authorities and other organisations in your area, developing an overview of local programme performance and working with Departmental colleagues on interventions should delivery issues be faced.
- Deputise for your SEO representing Government at meetings including at Towns Boards, and LEP boards.
- Prepare reports on your local economies, developing a strong understanding of economic trends and their impact.
- Use local knowledge and awareness of policy to draft well written pieces of correspondence on key issues in their area.
- Support a range of engagement by your team, including developing agendas and arrangements for meetings inside and outside HMG.
- Support the efficient running of the team by taking ownership for important corporate tasks including coordination of cross
- cutting requests, compilation of risk registers and so on.
