Bristol, United Kingdom Western Power Distribution Full time

Job Introduction
The Distribution System Operator is responsible for the quantification of future demand and generation growth throughout National Grid Electricity Distribution and the identification of network constraints. It is also responsible for describing distribution system flexibility requirements and market development.

As part of our hybrid working approach, this role offers a mix of office and home working.

If you are offered a position, you will be required to successfully complete a basic DBS check that shows any unspent convictions or conditional cautions.
- Please note you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

Main Responsibilities
- Proactively engaging with stakeholder groups involved in Local Area Energy Planning, which includes Local Authorities, Local Enterprise Partnerships, Combined Authorities and Regional/Devolved Governments
- Maintaining a register of the engagement undertaken recording this in a central repository
- Map regional stakeholder groups on their progress with Local Area Energy Planning activities, identifying areas where NGED need to provide additional support.
- Holding regular surgeries with regional stakeholder groups
- Promoting best practice between regional stakeholder groups
- Engaging with internal stakeholders to develop an understanding of the connections process, and make internal stakeholders aware of relevant knowledge gained through external stakeholder engagement.
- Engaging with relevant external stakeholders (e.g. Ofgem, Major energy users, Other utilities)

You will have strong organisational skills and be able to communicate proficiently with key stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally. You will be comfortable working independently and proactively organising meetings with local authorities and seeking out the relevant contacts.

Ideally, you will have an understanding of how investment is delivered across distribution networks and the current planning process, along with the advantages and disadvantages of proactive and reactive approaches to investment planning on distribution networks. You should have an appreciation of current structures and operating models of Local Authorities and regional government stakeholders.

Applicants may not necessarily possess all the skills required to carry out the role at present but should have the confidence and ability to reach the necessary standards with in-role training.

**Your Benefits**

Joining the UK’s leading electricity distribution business means plenty of career opportunities and well-deserved recognition. We reward hard work and encourage ambition. So, as well as a competitive salary, you’ll have 26 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays. You can use our competitive contributory pension scheme (we double match your contributions up to a maximum of 10%), and you could even benefit from our annual Share Save plan. We supply your protective clothing and safety equipment, and there’s free parking at all our main sites. Our Employee Assistance Programme is there to take care of you and includes musculoskeletal and physiotherapy services if you need them.
