DWP is looking to fill 1 role within Security and Data Protection (part of Finance Group). This is a key role, and we are looking for people who will help us deliver the data protection vision for DWP.

The DWP Data Protection Officer is responsible for monitoring overall compliance with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

The DWP DPO Function is made up of four teams, each managed by a Deputy DPO (DDPO):

- Business Management, Data Breaches and Compliance
- Policy and Guidance
- Advice and Guidance
- Information and Records Management

The Vacancy is the DDPO managing the Advice and Guidance Team.

The main roles of the Advice and Guidance Team are:

- Managing the Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) process, working with projects to ensure data protection by design and default.
- Providing expert advice and guidance to DWP colleagues on data protection requirements and controls.
- Delivering agreed business activities and team upskilling as appropriate.
- Engaging with legal colleagues on data protection issues and appropriate changes.
- Working with DWP Business areas as required to support GDPR compliance.

**Job description**:
The post holders will play a key role in influencing and driving forward a variety of activities to support data protection compliance in DWP.

The main responsibilities will include but not limited to:

- Undertaking trend analysis to identify improvements.
- Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders to ensure needs are identified.
- Leading a team to achieve its team objectives.
- Building a culture of continuous improvement.
- Identifying and/or ensuring delivery of training and awareness initiatives on data protection and providing input to centrally developed mandatory training where appropriate.
- Working with external and internal communications to define and develop privacy awareness campaigns, communications and updates.
- Providing expert advice and guidance to the business on data protection requirements and controls.
- Providing guidance on approach to emerging data protection issues.

**Person specification**:
The post-holder will need to demonstrate strong leadership, communication, analytical and stakeholder management skills, have the ability to operate within a complex environment, be able to brief senior leaders clearly and confidently, and lead a team to deliver a high-quality professional service.
